On July 11th, the People's Committee of Hoi An City ( Quang Nam province ) announced that the 20th Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange Event will take place from August 2-4, 2024, in the Hoi An Old Town and Hoi An Park.

Accordingly, the programs taking place in Hoi An city will be rich in Vietnamese and Japanese cultural elements. In particular, this year's festival will feature the participation of many organizations, agencies, and businesses from various Japanese prefectures and cities, promising a vibrant and spectacular atmosphere.

Many new activities were featured at the 20th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange (Figure 1).

The 20th Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange Event comprises 22 activities, with the highlight being the opening night held at 7:30 PM on August 2nd at the Hoi An Park stage (2 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hoi An City).

Following this is a series of Vietnam-Japan art exchange programs, taking place on August 3rd at An Hoi Sculpture Garden, featuring Yosakoi performances, Japanese songs by the Terakoya Japanese language class, Ebisu and Kagura performances…

The Farewell Ceremony will take place at 7:30 PM on August 4th at An Hoi Sculpture Garden, featuring Kagura performances; community activities including Bon dance (Japan), rice drum dance, and bamboo pole dance (Vietnam)...

In addition, there are other activities: an exhibition of books and photos about cultural exchange activities between Hoi An and Japan at Hoi An Park; an exhibition of traditional Japanese dolls taking place from July 26th to August 4th at the Japanese Cultural Exhibition House (6 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai); and an exhibition "Dialogue with Ukiyo-E paintings" taking place from July 26th to August 4th at 39 Nguyen Thai Hoc.

The "Hoi An, Japan and Tourists" boat race will take place at 8:00 AM on August 2nd on the Hoai River, featuring performances of traditional basket boat shaking and a boat race on the Hoai River for Japanese guests, participating organizations, foreign tourists, and residents of Hoi An City; a panel discussion: "Cultural Exchange between Hoi An and Japan - A Journey of Cultural Connection" will be held on August 3rd…

Also on this occasion, Hoi An City will hold the inauguration ceremony of the Japanese Bridge. The event will include important activities such as: the carp flag-raising ceremony by Mr. Sugi Ryotaro (former Special Ambassador of Vietnam to Japan); a reenactment of the procession of Princess Ngoc Hoa and merchant Araki Sotaro; and a seminar on "Cultural Exchange between Hoi An and Japan - A Journey of Cultural Connection"...

In addition, this event will also include several supporting activities such as: a Vietnamese-Japanese cultural space; a tour program "Ancient Japanese Traces"; and an experiential program "Hizen Ceramics - Patterns Telling Stories"...

Many new activities were featured at the 20th Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange (Figure 2).

According to the organizers, this year's event is an opportunity to summarize and reflect on 20 years of cooperation and to look forward to more comprehensive multi-sectoral cooperation in the future. Through numerous events, the Hoi An-Japan cultural exchange has truly left a positive impression on the people of both countries, thereby preserving, developing, and creating traditional values ​​in a new, more refined way.
