Professor Luong Van Hy of the University of Toronto (Canada) is one of 16 visiting lecturers at the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, according to a plan approved by the university's advisory board. Professor Luong Van Hy is a renowned Vietnamese figure abroad. He has an outstanding academic, research, and professional record. He was a student at Petrus Ky High School, now Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City. He graduated with a joint degree in Anthropology and Asian Studies in 1974 from the University of California at Berkeley (USA). He then earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology in 1981 from Harvard University (USA).
Professor Luong Van Hy has taught at many universities in the United States. Since the 1990s, he has taught and served as head of the Anthropology Department at the University of Toronto (Canada).
In 2006, Professor Luong Van Hy was awarded the title of "Honorary Professor" and a badge of honor by the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. This was the first time a university in Vietnam had bestowed the title of "Honorary Professor" to recognize the significant contributions of Vietnamese expatriate professors to the development of Vietnamese education .
Since 1987, Professor Dr. Luong Van Hy has frequently returned to Vietnam. He has participated in numerous scientific research projects in anthropology, sociology, and linguistics, making practical contributions to the national academia in general and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City in particular.

Speaking with VietNamNet , Associate Professor Vu Hai Quan, Director of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, said that the field of social sciences and humanities currently lacks leading experts. Professor Luong Van Hy is a leading professor in the field of Anthropology in particular and social sciences and humanities in general. He has returned to Vietnam to teach, supervise research, and participate in many activities, but these are personal activities.
"Following a proposal from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, we want to officially formalize Professor Luong Van Hy's participation in teaching and research so that both sides can feel comfortable collaborating. I am very happy that Professor Luong Van Hy has officially become a visiting professor at the university," said Associate Professor Vu Hai Quan.
Many other professors also came to or returned to Vietnam to give guest lectures.
Besides Professor Luong Van Hy, many other researchers will also be visiting lecturers at the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City under various research or teaching programs. Among them are many from leading universities worldwide in the US, Germany, Australia, Japan, and other countries.
Specifically, Dr. Pham Hy Hieu, who graduated with honors in Computer Science from Stanford University (USA) from 2011-2015 and was awarded the Ben Wegbreit Prize for the best honorary dissertation, is currently a technical member at xAI (USA). Dr. Pham Hy Hieu will teach and conduct research at the University of Science and Technology and the University of Information Technology.
Professor Nguyen Le Minh, from the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, teaches at the University of Technology. Professor Pham Cong Kha, from Tokyo University of Electronics and Communications (Japan), teaches at the University of Technology. Associate Professor Dinh Ngoc Thach, from the National School of Arts and Crafts (France), teaches at the University of Information Technology. Dr. Tran Anh Thong, from the Australian National University, teaches at An Giang University. Professor Ngo Chi Hien, from the University of Western Australia, teaches and conducts research at the University of Health Sciences.
