Professor Luong Van Hy returns to Vietnam to lecture

Renowned Professor Luong Van Hy, University of Toronto (Canada) is a visiting professor at Ho Chi Minh City National University, with a research collaboration role at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Professor Luong Van Hy of the University of Toronto (Canada) is one of 16 people who will be visiting lecturers at Ho Chi Minh City National University, according to the plan approved by the University's Advisory Council. The University of Toronto is ranked first in Canada and among the top in the world .

Professor Luong Van Hy is a famous Vietnamese person abroad. He has an outstanding learning, research and working process. He was a student of Petrus Ky School, now Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, Ho Chi Minh City. He graduated with a combined degree in Anthropology and Asian Studies in 1974 from the University of California at Berkeley (USA). He then received his PhD in Anthropology in 1981 from Harvard University (USA).

Professor Luong Van Hy has taught at many universities in the US. Since the 1990s, he has taught and become head of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Toronto (Canada).

In 2006, Professor Luong Van Hy was awarded the title of “Honorary Professor” and a badge of honor by Ho Chi Minh City National University. This was the first time a university in Vietnam awarded the title of “Honorary Professor” to recognize the significant contributions and dedication of overseas Vietnamese professors in the construction and development of Vietnameseeducation .

Since 1987, Professor Luong Van Hy has frequently returned to Vietnam. He has participated in many scientific research projects on anthropology, sociology and linguistics, making practical contributions to the country's academics in general and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City in particular.

Notably, he is the first Vietnamese to hold the position of President of the Association for Asian Studies in the association's more than 70-year history. He has received many domestic and international awards.

Speaking to VietNamNet , Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the field of social sciences and humanities is currently lacking leading experts. Professor Dr. Luong Van Hy is a leading professor in the field of Anthropology in particular and social sciences and humanities in general. He has returned to Vietnam to teach, guide research and participate in many activities, but these are personal activities.

"From the proposal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, we want to formalize the participation of Professor Luong Van Hy in teaching and research so that both sides can feel comfortable when working together. I am very happy that Professor Luong Van Hy has officially become a visiting professor of the university," said Associate Professor Dr. Vu Hai Quan.

Many other professors also returned or came to Vietnam to give lectures.

In addition to Professor Luong Van Hy, many other researchers will also be visiting lecturers at Ho Chi Minh City National University in the form of research or teaching. Among them, many come from the world's leading prestigious universities in the US, Germany, Australia, Japan, etc.

Specifically, Dr. Pham Hy Hieu, who graduated with honors in Computer Science from Stanford University in 2011-2015 (USA) and was awarded the Ben Wegbreit Prize for the best honorary thesis, is currently a technical member at xAI (USA). Dr. Pham Hy Hieu will teach and research at the University of Natural Sciences and the University of Information Technology.

Professor Nguyen Le Minh, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, teaches at the University of Science and Technology. Professor Pham Cong Kha, Tokyo University of Electronics and Communications (Japan), teaches at the University of Science and Technology. Associate Professor Dinh Ngoc Thach, National School of Arts and Crafts (France), teaches at the University of Information Technology. Dr. Tran Anh Thong, Australian National University, teaches at An Giang University. Professor Ngo Chi Hien, University of Western Australia, teaches and researches at the University of Health Sciences.

For foreigners, there is Professor Barbara Rose Gottlieb, currently Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, teaching and researching at the University of Health Sciences. Professor Senthotl Asseng, Technical University of Munich (Germany) researches at An Giang University; Professor Robert Brian Waring, Okayama University (Japan) teaches at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities...
