TPO - After more than 5 years of construction with numerous design adjustments between earthen and concrete embankments, the Au Co road section from Nghi Tam to Nhat Tan Bridge, over 5 km long, has been completed. From 2 lanes, the road is now 6 lanes wide, facilitating convenient traffic flow.
Due to the narrow road with only two lanes and frequent traffic congestion, in 2018 the Hanoi People's Committee implemented a project to lower the Au Co dike to widen the road. |
After 5 years of construction, the Au Co road section from Nghi Tam to Nhat Tan, which originally had 2 lanes, now has a width of 4 to 6 lanes, making traffic flow more convenient and smoother. |
In some sections, due to houses on both sides, the Au Co dike can only be widened to 2 lanes/direction, making traffic a bit difficult. |
In addition, with the embankment lowered to widen the road, a concrete retaining wall, approximately 2 meters higher than the road surface, was rebuilt in the Nghi Tam - Nhat Tan direction. |
Although it is a concrete dike, the design still ensures protection against floods from the Red River at alarm level 3 (the highest level). In addition, both sides of the retaining wall are equipped with access bridges and gates to allow residents living outside the dike to access Au Co Street. |
In addition to the main road with two lanes, each three lanes wide, the project also includes parallel service roads on both sides to facilitate daily life and transportation for residents living along Nghi Tam - Au Co road (red arrows). |
In addition, the project also renovates and redesigns the infrastructure at intersections to ensure that conflicts between different traffic flows are avoided, preventing traffic congestion. |
These include major intersections such as: Au Co - Xuan Dieu, Au Co - Nghi Tam, Au Co - Yen Phu, Au Co - Lac Long Quan... In the photo: Instead of having to stop and wait for traffic lights, from now on vehicles passing through the Au Co - Nghi Tam intersection will go continuously along the roundabout. |
For over five years, due to construction work, traffic on Au Co Street was one-way, causing constant congestion. However, since the project was completed at the end of September, the Hanoi Department of Transport has implemented a plan to allow all vehicles to travel in both directions. |
