The recent Tường Hạ Commune Cultural, Sports , and Tourism Promotion Festival created a vibrant and culturally rich atmosphere. Locals and tourists participated in many attractive cultural activities and explored the distinctive cultural spaces of the Thái, Mông, Mường, and Dao ethnic groups.
Folk performances such as bamboo pole dancing and drum-playing of the Muong ethnic group; the Hmong people's khene dance, the Dao people's bell dance, along with traditional games like throwing the ball, carrying water back to the village, tug-of-war, sack racing… performed by the cultural troupes and clubs from the villages and hamlets in the commune, added to the festival's appeal.

Ms. Hoang Thi Hong, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Tuong Ha commune, said: "The Cultural Festival aims to promote the traditional beauty of the ethnic minority community in Tuong Ha commune. Through the activities at the festival, we hope to preserve and pass on traditional cultural values to the younger generation and promote tourism in the locality."

Besides Tuong Ha commune, many localities organized diverse activities to preserve and promote ethnic cultural values throughout the year, bringing cultural heritage closer to the daily lives of the people. Each festival is a vibrant picture, reflecting the unique beauty of each ethnic group, notably: the Ethnic Culture Festival in Tan Phong and Muong Coi; the New Rice Festival in Yen Chau and Ngoc Chien; the Xip Xi Tet Festival of the Thai ethnic group in Phu Yen and Quynh Nhai…
2025 marks the 8th year of the Ngoc Chien New Rice Festival. This year, the festival attracted thousands of tourists and locals who immersed themselves in rich, unique, and vibrant cultural and sporting activities, reflecting the distinctive character of Ngoc Chien – a "fairytale countryside." The Ngoc Chien New Rice Festival consists of a ceremonial part and a festive part. The ceremonial part includes the ritual of offering new rice, performing ceremonies to express gratitude to ancestors and heaven and earth, and praying for favorable weather, a bountiful harvest, and a prosperous and fulfilling life. The festive part attracted a large number of visitors with its cultural performances by artisans and performing arts groups from the villages of Ngoc Chien commune, featuring diverse songs, dances, and music with themes praising the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, the renewed Son La homeland, love between couples, the beautiful natural scenery of Muong La, and the fragrant rice of Ngoc Chien…
Mr. Duong Xuan Nam, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ngoc Chien commune, shared: "The New Rice Festival is held during the rice harvest season at the end of August and beginning of September. This is a beautiful traditional cultural feature of the ethnic minorities; it encourages the people's spirit, builds cultural life, and expands the area specializing in glutinous rice cultivation. At the same time, it promotes and introduces the potential and cultural identity of the ethnic groups, attracting tourists from inside and outside the province."

Currently, the province has 20 intangible cultural heritage sites, including the "Thai Xoe Dance Art" which has been inscribed by UNESCO as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The province has 2 People's Artists and 27 Outstanding Artists who are directly involved in preserving and teaching the culture of ethnic groups. In addition, many beautiful rituals and customs have been restored, preserved, and performed at the province's cultural events, linked to tourism development, creating cultural highlights for the locality.
Mr. Pham Hong Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, informed: The department will review and classify traditional festivals in the area according to their historical and cultural value and their connection to community life. Based on this, appropriate organizational guidelines will be established, avoiding indiscriminate restoration. Festivals should focus on restoring traditional rituals, promoting the role of artisans, thereby preserving cultural identity and passing on cultural knowledge to the younger generation.

Cultural, sports, and ethnic festival activities have created a vibrant and distinctive space, providing opportunities to preserve and pass on precious traditional values to the younger generation. With guidance from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the active involvement of local authorities, the restoration and organization of cultural events not only meet the needs of the people but also create important momentum for promoting local culture, bringing heritage closer to tourists, and developing sustainable tourism.
