Located about 5km from the provincial administrative center, the Linh Son guava growing area lies on gently sloping hills, mainly composed of stony soil. Despite the arid land, it is very suitable for growing guavas, producing crisp, sweet fruit that is popular in the market.
On the concrete road leading to the guava growing area, we visited the guava orchard of Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Huyen, Deputy Director of Linh Nham Guava Cooperative. The two-story house, surrounded by lush green guava trees, has provided a stable income for the family for many years.
Ms. Huyen recounted that more than 20 years ago, people in the area planted many kinds of fruit trees but faced difficulties in selling them, resulting in low profits. Around the year 2000, some households tried bringing Taiwanese guava varieties to plant. This variety adapted well to the soil, its fruit was crispy and sweet, quickly became popular, and was gradually propagated throughout the region.
Currently, Ms. Huyen's family has about 200 guava trees. After 5 years of care, the orchard has yielded a stable harvest, with prices ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 VND/kg, bringing in about 100 million VND per harvest. Ms. Huyen said: Guava trees are easy to grow, mainly requiring weeding, pruning, and regular fertilization, but it is necessary to control fruit flies and stem borers by bagging the fruit from a young age and applying safe measures.
It's not just Ms. Huyen's family; many other households in the area are also involved in and prosper from guava cultivation. A prime example is the family of Ms. Hoang Thuy Kieu in Lang Phan hamlet. Ms. Hoang Thuy Kieu said: "Previously, my family planted other fruit trees, but the economic efficiency was low. Now, with over 300 guava trees, yielding about 10 tons annually, my family has a more stable income."
From barren land, guava trees have become a staple crop, bringing prosperity to many households. In 2024, the Linh Nham Guava Cooperative was established with 24 members, linking production on an area of 12 hectares, facilitating product consumption. In the same year, Linh Nham guava was recognized as a 3-star OCOP product at the provincial level.

According to statistics, the area of guava orchards in Linh Son is currently about 84 hectares, mainly concentrated in the following hamlets: Lang Phan, Ao Lang, Thong Nhan, Cay Son, Thanh Chu… with an annual production of hundreds of tons.
Many orchards are over 20 years old, and their productivity is gradually declining. To overcome this, the government and relevant departments organize training courses on intensive farming techniques, orchard improvement, and guide farmers on the use of organic fertilizers, biological products, and safe pest and disease control.
The Linh Nham guava cooperative receives support in terms of labels and participates in trade fairs and exhibitions to promote its products, helping the Linh Son guava brand become increasingly well-known. However, the current challenge is the situation where some places sell low-quality guavas labeled as "Linh Son guavas," affecting the product's reputation.
Since 2019, the Intellectual Property Office has granted trademark protection for "Linh Nham Guava, Linh Son Ward". This is a significant milestone, affirming the product's value and providing reassurance for local investors. For the brand to spread, the cooperation of the government, cooperatives, and local people is needed in developing production areas according to safe and organic standards.
