In the face of these changes, the question of how to both keep pace with the times and preserve family traditions is becoming a matter of particular concern in the land of lotus flowers and deep affection.
SPREADING THE MESSAGE "END VIOLENCE, CULTIVATE LOVE"
Recently, at the My Tho Ward Cultural Center, the Standing Committee of the Dong Thap Provincial Women's Union organized the forum "Families in the Digital Age - Maintaining Family Traditions and Preserving Family Values". This program was a practical activity in response to the 2026 National Action Month on the Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence and to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Vietnamese Family Day (June 28, 2001 - June 28, 2026).

The forum's atmosphere became warm as hundreds of delegates, officials, members, women, and exemplary families from across the province participated, sharing meaningful everyday stories about their journeys in preserving family happiness in the digital age.
Speaking at the program, Comrade Thai Ngoc Bao Tram, Provincial Party Committee member and President of the Dong Thap Provincial Women's Union, affirmed: The family is always the nucleus, the fundamental "cell" of society; and at the same time, a sustainable support that helps each person overcome the difficulties and challenges of life.
The beautiful values of love, loyalty, filial piety, and sharing are traditional virtues that have been preserved and promoted by many generations of people in the Land of the Lotus.
However, with the rapid development of modern society, many family values are at risk of fading away. Life pressures, the impact of social media, dependence on technology, and the generation gap are causing many families to gradually lose their cohesion. Domestic violence, psychological abuse, and conflicts between parents and children continue to occur silently in many forms.
| At the event, the Organizing Committee awarded 25 scholarships to underprivileged students and 25 gifts to disadvantaged women members in the province. Although the gifts were not of great monetary value, they demonstrated the community's care and support for families facing difficulties in life. This activity contributes to the concrete implementation of the "Building a Family with 5 No's, 3 Cleanliness, and 3 Safeties" campaign, along with other meaningful programs such as "Godmother" and "A Million Gifts Sharing Love" implemented by the Women's Union at all levels in the past. |
According to Comrade Thai Ngoc Bao Tram, the theme of this year's National Action Month on the Prevention and Control of Domestic Violence: "Ending Violence, Cultivating Love" is not just a propaganda slogan, but also a reminder of the responsibility of each individual, each family, and the entire society in building a safe, humane, and happy living environment.
Women's associations at all levels in the province are required to continue promoting the dissemination of information and education on ethics and interpersonal skills within the family; raising awareness about preventing and combating domestic violence; and promptly detecting, supporting, and strictly handling violations of the law related to women and children.
One of the most emotionally impactful parts of the forum was the thematic talk by Dr. Nguyen Hiep Tri, former Deputy Head of the Department of Child Protection, Care and Social Welfare, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health. Through relatable and practical stories, Dr. Nguyen Hiep Tri raised a series of issues that prompted much reflection from parents: “Have you ever, during a family meal, been engrossed in your phone instead of talking to each other? Have you ever unintentionally hurt your loved ones with your indifference online?”
These questions reflect a worrying reality in many modern families today. Technology brings connection to the world but is also causing many family members to become distant from each other under the same roof. The touching highlight of the program was the skit "Keeping the Flame of Happiness Alive in the Digital Age" performed by the family of Mr. Pham Duong Vinh Loc, from Sa Dec ward.
The skit realistically portrays a familiar image of many young families today: the father busy with online meetings, the mother constantly livestreaming to sell goods, and the young child silently facing loneliness in a house full of technological devices.
The image of the little girl blowing out her birthday candles alone next to a cold cake brought tears to the eyes of many attendees. Compensation in the form of money or phone calls from parents cannot replace what children truly need: attention, listening, and simple moments of togetherness. The message conveyed through the skit resonated with many: "Technology can connect us to the world, but sometimes it distances us from our closest loved ones."
In the midst of modern life, family happiness doesn't lie in flashy material possessions, but is nurtured by simple things: a meal with all family members present, sincere conversations, or moments when everyone "turns off the screens to open up to love."
SECRETS TO KEEPING THE FLAME OF HAPPINESS ALIVE
Beyond reflecting the hidden aspects of family life in the digital age, the forum also spreads many positive values through interactions with exemplary cultural families.

The story of Mr. Pham Ngo Tan Huy, who works at the Vinh Binh Commune Health Station, and Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thao, who works at the Go Cong Tay Regional Health Center, resonated deeply with attendees. Having dedicated over 10 years to the healthcare sector, they have consistently faced work pressure, night shifts, and irregular schedules. However, it is their shared understanding and empathy that have kept their family happy.
From co-parenting and sharing household chores to handling disagreements, their relationship is built on mutual respect and listening. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Thao shared: “When conflicts arise, husband and wife don’t get angry or raise their voices; instead, they try to remain calm and express their thoughts. Most importantly, they must know how to put themselves in the other person’s shoes to understand.”
In raising their children, instead of imposing their will, the parents choose to accompany them, guiding them to use social media properly, distinguish between real values and the virtual world, and stay away from harmful content online.
Thanks to that positive education, for many years, their family has been awarded the title of Exemplary Cultural Family; they themselves have received many Certificates of Merit from the central and local authorities, and their son has always been an outstanding student.
The forum "Families in the Digital Age - Upholding Family Traditions and Preserving Family Values" concluded in a warm and emotional atmosphere. More than just a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences in building happy families, the program also contributed to fostering an awareness of preserving traditional values within each home amidst the ever-changing digital age.
The 25th anniversary of Vietnamese Family Day is an opportunity for everyone to reflect on and cherish the sacred values of family. From simple homes, the flame of love is being preserved and spread every day, aiming to build happy, progressive, and civilized families – a sustainable foundation for a prosperous and developed society.
