Along the Thai Binh River and Kinh Thay Canal, passing through Hai Duong ward and Hop Tien commune (Hai Phong), there are thousands of aquaculture cages, and many households are facing economic challenges in preserving their livelihoods.

Hop Tien commune has dozens of households raising fish in cages on the river. In recent years, oversupply has made it difficult for fish cage farmers to sell their products.
Ms. Vu Thi Nu's family (Hop Tien commune) has more than 50 cages for raising crispy carp, with daily feed costs reaching tens of millions of VND. The fish take nearly a year to harvest, but with a selling price of 80,000 – 120,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, the profit is almost negligible. Besides animal feed, households also have to spend money on hiring people to mow the grass for the fish.

Bac Ninh: Aquaculture maintains its growth momentum.BAC NINH - In 2025, aquaculture production in Bac Ninh province faced many difficulties and challenges due to the impact of diseases and natural disasters, including typhoons No. 10 and 11 which caused heavy damage to farmers in some localities.
In Hai Duong ward, during favorable times, dozens of households raise nearly 200 cages of catfish, snakehead, tilapia, grass carp, etc. The damage from Typhoon Yagi was extensive, and many households no longer have the resources to reinvest, so the number of fish cages has now been reduced by half. Low prices have deterred many households from selling, while the cost increases as the fish grow larger. Hai Phong city has more than 8,000 fish cages on the rivers, mainly on the Thai Binh and Kinh Thuy rivers. To sustain the profession, it is necessary to plan stable farming areas, build consumption chains, and provide credit support... to help people feel secure in staying on the rivers and preserving the profession.
