| The Women's Union of Kim Long Ward provides support and companionship to single and vulnerable women. |
The "Godmother" program from the Kim Long Ward Women's Union is supporting 15 orphaned children in their journey to school. "I always receive care, encouragement, and support from the mothers and aunts. Besides cash assistance, I often receive books, clothes, and school supplies. I promise to study hard so as not to disappoint everyone," shared Do Thi Nhu Y, from Group 3.
In addition, the Association pays special attention to elderly, single, and sick women. The case of sisters Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc and Nguyen Thi Dieu Hanh is an example. Due to their advanced age, lack of husbands and children, and frequent illnesses, the lives of these two elderly women are fraught with difficulties. Understanding their circumstances, the Women's Union of the ward has consistently provided monthly support in the form of money, rice, and essential goods.
Ms. Ngoc said emotionally, "Thanks to the regular care and support from the Women's Union of the ward, we are much less burdened. Besides providing rice and money, their thoughtful visits warm our hearts, especially during times of illness."
Through simple acts, the Women's Union of Kim Long Ward has created models that bring practical results. The "Free Bread Cabinet" model at Branch 14 is maintained regularly every month, distributing about 150 loaves of bread to needy people each time. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram, Head of Branch 14, said: "Although these acts of assistance are not grand, seeing people happily and gratefully receiving the loaves of bread gives us even more motivation to continue these community-oriented activities."
Environmental protection models linked to social welfare have also been effectively implemented. The "Green House - Turning Waste into Gifts" and "Waste Sorting using Indigenous Microbiological Methods (IMO)" models have attracted a large number of members. Currently, the ward has 27 "Green Houses" located in residential areas, becoming collection points for recyclable waste to raise funds.
From recycled waste, the Association has also mobilized support from restaurants and wedding venues in the area through the collection of empty cans, contributing to the fund. This fund is used to support the "Godmother" program and the "Supporting Single and Vulnerable Women" program.
The Women's Union of Kim Long ward also focuses on helping members escape poverty sustainably through livelihood support and loans. Ms. Nguyen Thi Vy Yen (Group 12) shared: "My family used to be very poor, with unstable jobs. Thanks to the Women's Union's support in terms of capital, livelihoods, and guidance on livestock farming and cultivation, our lives have gradually become more stable."
Activities supporting the construction and repair of houses for poor members are also given attention. The case of Ms. Nguyen Thi Diep (Lien Bang residential area) is a typical example. From a poor household with a dilapidated house, she received support to build a solid home. "Having a sturdy house, I can work with peace of mind and take care of my family. I am very grateful for the concern of the local government and women's associations at all levels," Ms. Diep said.
The Women's Union of Kim Long Ward has implemented many humanitarian activities with increasingly large social resources. Notable examples include the "Millions of Gifts, Sharing Love" program, which distributed 119 gift packages to help women and children overcome difficulties caused by epidemics and natural disasters. The Union also awarded 272 Nguyen Thi Dinh scholarships totaling over 105 million VND to poor and near-poor students with good academic achievements; and mobilized emergency support for members in need, amounting to nearly 100 million VND.
Ms. Vo Thi Phuoc, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Women's Union of the ward, said: "The Union's activities have strongly promoted the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance within the community. Not only does it provide timely support to members in difficult circumstances, but it also contributes to creating a sustainable resource for social welfare work in the locality."
