This year's Workers' Month brings special joy to union member Nguyen Thi Tuyet, of the Hanesbrands Vietnam Hue Co., Ltd. (HBI) grassroots trade union, as the construction of a new "Trade Union Shelter" has begun, replacing her family's old, dilapidated house.

Ms. Tuyet is in a particularly difficult situation. Both she and her husband are low-income factory workers. Tragedy struck when their child died from post-operative complications. Ms. Tuyet herself is undergoing treatment for chronic depression.

For many years, her family lived in a cramped house with large cracks in the walls and a dilapidated corrugated iron roof, always worried during the rainy and stormy seasons. In early May, a grant of 60 million VND from the "Trade Union Shelter" Fund helped her family rebuild their house, easing their housing worries and gradually stabilizing their lives.

What Ms. Tuyet cherishes most is not only the material support but also the care and companionship of the trade union and her colleagues during the most difficult times. "There were times when I thought I didn't have the strength to overcome it, but thanks to everyone's encouragement, I had more faith to keep trying," Ms. Tuyet shared.

This year's Workers' Month also brought great joy to the family of Mr. Huynh Ngoc Dung, a member of the grassroots trade union at the City Youth Activities Center.

Previously, Mr. Dung's family of four lived in a small house of only about 20 square meters. His meager salary was their main source of income, while his wife did not have a stable job. Despite frugal spending, the couple still did not have enough money to rebuild their house. In early May 2026, construction began on their "Trade Union Shelter" with a 60 million VND grant from the "Trade Union Shelter" Fund.

Not only Ms. Tuyet and Mr. Dung, but during this year's Workers' Month, the Hue City Federation of Labor (LĐLĐ) allocated over 200 million VND to support the construction and repair of houses for 4 disadvantaged union members, helping many families gradually stabilize their lives.

From meals to spiritual life

At Hue Mineral Resources Joint Stock Company, the "Trade Union Meal" program during this year's Workers' Month left many positive impressions on union members and workers. The atmosphere of the collective meal became warmer when the value of each meal was increased by 50,000 VND. The menu was enhanced with nutritious dishes that suited everyone's taste, creating a close and sharing atmosphere among the workers in the enterprise.

Along with providing meals, welfare programs for union members and their children have also been expanded in a more practical direction. Recently, the Hue City Federation of Labor Unions signed several welfare programs for union members and workers; coordinated with the City's Youth Activities Center to organize free swimming lessons for the children of union members, and reduced tuition fees for talent classes by 10-20%.

The City Federation of Labor Unions also collaborated with businesses to implement many incentives for union members and their families at the Alba Thanh Tan Hot Spring Resort, such as free bathing and recreational activities for outstanding students. Hoa Nghiem Trading & Service Co., Ltd. provided free wedding dress rentals worth 9 million VND to some union members in difficult circumstances when organizing their weddings...

Mr. Nguyen Quy, Vice Chairman of the Hue City Federation of Labor Unions, said: Along with direct support programs, this year, all levels of trade unions are focusing on implementing many activities to comprehensively care for union members and workers right at the grassroots level, such as: psychological counseling, health care, parenting skills training, skill enhancement, and improving their spiritual lives. All activities aim to help union members and workers feel more clearly the care, sharing, and companionship of the trade union organization in their daily lives.
