Continuing his activities within the framework of his working visit to New York (USA), on the morning of September 25th (local time, evening of the same day in Vietnam), General Secretary and President To Lam met with the leaders of Google and the leaders of two major American corporations in the energy sector, namely AES and Pacifico Energy.
Google wants to develop AI together with Vietnam.
During a meeting with Mr. Karan Bhatia, Vice President for Government Relations and Public Policy at Google, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Google and its partners' continued expansion of investment and business activities in Vietnam reflects Vietnam's increasingly important position, both from the perspective of strengthening the supply chain and developing the market for the corporation's products.
Affirming that Vietnam always creates favorable conditions for American businesses in particular and foreign businesses in general, the General Secretary and President requested Google to continue to have a voice and guide suppliers in the corporation's supply chain to expand investment and business in Vietnam.
At the same time, he requested Google's support in enhancing the capacity of Vietnamese businesses to participate in the corporation's supply chain.
According to the General Secretary and President, developing high-quality human resources is one of Vietnam's three strategic breakthroughs in the current period, especially in the fields of biotechnology, artificial intelligence, chips, semiconductors, etc.
Therefore, he welcomed Google's proposal for collaborative training in the field of AI. He also hoped that Google would cooperate with the Vietnam National Innovation Center and other agencies, institutes, and schools in the country to implement specific, effective collaborative projects that would bring practical benefits to both sides.
The Party and State leaders also highly appreciated the corporation's proposal for cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, as this is a particularly important area in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution strongly impacting all sectors of the economy.
Thanking the General Secretary and President for taking the time to meet, Mr. Karan Bhatia affirmed Google's commitment to cooperation with Vietnam and announced that this year the corporation has opened a new office in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as having a well-functioning production facility for phones and other components in Vietnam.
Mr. Karan Bhatia expressed his desire to continue researching and cooperating with Vietnam on AI development, a field in which Google excels and which could be very beneficial for Vietnam.
On this occasion, Google leaders shared the company's approach to AI, which includes building models, applying the technology to Google's own products, and supporting both the public and private sectors in applying AI to their operations.
Google is also expanding its skills training in Vietnam to enhance cooperation on AI, and will soon be advising on the policy and legal environment to optimize AI development. The corporation also expects to support Vietnam in cloud services combined with AI, as well as cooperate in the field of cybersecurity.
Support importing LNG from the US.
Receiving Mr. Juan Ignacio Rubiolo, Senior Vice President of AES Energy Group, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed and highly appreciated the group's effective investment and business activities in Vietnam over the past period.
Affirming that Vietnam always encourages foreign investors, especially in clean energy transition projects, the General Secretary and President requested AES Corporation to continue to cooperate closely with Vietnamese partners in the implementation of projects to ensure compliance with legal regulations.
According to the General Secretary and President, Vietnam is seeking solutions to balance its trade deficit with the United States, and therefore, he supports importing liquefied petroleum gas to increase imports of American goods.
He also suggested that AES should not change its future deployment plans, as the project is already included in Vietnam's Power Development Plan VIII.
The General Secretary and President affirmed that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam are committed to creating all favorable conditions for American investors in general, and AES Corporation in particular, to invest and do business effectively in Vietnam.
Expressing his sincere gratitude to the General Secretary and President for taking the time to receive him, Mr. Juan Ignacio Rubiolo stated that AES is committed to a long-term presence in Vietnam, as well as supporting Vietnam's energy transition and green economy.
Mr. Juan Ignacio Rubiolo also expressed his desire to cooperate with Vietnamese businesses such as PV Gas and EVN to optimize the supply of clean energy for Vietnam's industrial projects, improve and ensure the reliability of Vietnam's energy supply.
Emphasizing that one of the US's goals is to help strengthen Vietnam-US relations, especially in clean energy, the AES Group leader pledged to continue investing more strongly to support Vietnam's development, thereby improving the lives of the Vietnamese people.

Receiving Mr. Nate Franklin, founder and chairman of Pacifico Energy Group, General Secretary and President To Lam highly appreciated the contributions and successful investment and business cooperation activities of Pacifico Energy in the world and in Vietnam in recent years.
The Party and State leaders also encouraged Pacifico's plans for new investments in energy transformation projects in Vietnam in the coming period.
Noting that Vietnam is aiming for net-zero emissions by 2050 and is accelerating its energy transition, the General Secretary and President urged Pacifico Energy to speed up the implementation of ongoing projects and expressed his hope that the group would undertake even more projects in Vietnam.
Thanking the General Secretary and President for taking the time to meet, Mr. Nate Franklin provided information about the corporation's capabilities and its presence in Vietnam.
Affirming his understanding of Vietnam's energy needs in order to realize its development goals in the new phase, Mr. Nate Franklin pledged to continue coordinating with partners to implement projects effectively.
Leaders of Pacifico Energy Group also assessed that Vietnam has many geographical and topographical advantages for developing clean energy, and expressed confidence that Vietnam can still achieve its offshore wind power development goals by 2030.
