This information has been confirmed by reputable sources such as 9to5Google and the homepage of the Google I/O event. This is considered a big step to bring NotebookLM to a wider audience on mobile platforms.
NotebookLM, formerly Project Tailwind, was first introduced at Google I/O 2023 as an experiment in Google Labs. This tool has made a strong impression with its ability to synthesize information, connect ideas, and support in-depth research. In July 2023, Google began testing NotebookLM with a limited group of users in the US. In December 2024, the premium version NotebookLM Plus for businesses was launched, focusing on enhanced security and increased usage limits.
Then, on February 10, 2025, NotebookLM Plus officially expanded to individual users through the Google One AI Premium package, marking an important step in Google's strategy to popularize AI technology.
However, NotebookLM has so far only been available on the web. Faced with growing demand for a standalone mobile app, Google announced designs for Android and iPhone on May 2, 2025.
According to the announcement, the NotebookLM mobile application will have outstanding features including: Document management tabs: Recent, Shared, Title and Downloaded; Audio Overview feature allows playing content as audio and downloading for offline use; Supports uploading and managing content from multiple sources such as PDF, web pages, YouTube videos and text directly from mobile devices.
Previously, on April 7, 2025, Google hinted at the appearance of the NotebookLM application with the message "NotebookLM application is coming soon". On the social network X, many users expressed their excitement for this mobile version.
Choosing Google I/O 2025 to unveil NotebookLM underscores the tool’s growing role in the AI product ecosystem that Google is fostering, and reflects the company’s commitment to advancing AI foreducation and research.
