Tomorrow, November 14th, the Organizing Committee of the 2023 Vietnam Golden Ball Award - Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, will send out voting ballots to delegates nationwide.

The deadline for returning the tickets is December 28th, the day of the final match of the 2023 Women's National Football Championship.

Similar to previous years, the delegates invited to participate in the voting included: Head coaches of the Vietnamese national football teams (men's), women's, and futsal teams; coaches of the U23 men's and U20 women's teams; head coaches and captains of professional men's teams, women's teams, and futsal teams; leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF); football experts; and media outlets nationwide…

The V-League 2023 competition plays a crucial role in the selection process for this year's Vietnamese Golden Ball awards.

The voting began just as the Vietnamese national team was departing for the Philippines to prepare for their opening match of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region (taking place on the evening of November 16th). This was seen as a way to boost the morale of the Vietnamese players as they had two crucial matches against the Philippines and Iraq in November.

In the final days of 2023, domestic championships still have many important matches in addition to the two World Cup qualifying matches of the Vietnamese national team. These include the 2023 Women's National Football Championship (ending December 28th), a tournament that concludes a busy year for Vietnamese women's football with a series of international tournaments. Furthermore, futsal fans are also looking forward to the 2023 National Futsal Cup, currently taking place in Ho Chi Minh City. This is also the last opportunity of the year for contenders to impress the delegates.

In the voting process, domestic championships are considered by the press to be very exciting. In Tuoi Tre newspaper, reporter Nguyen Khoi commented: "Because the Vietnamese national team has no official tournaments in 2023, the race for the 2023 Vietnamese Golden Ball will almost certainly be decided by players from their clubs."

On the VTC News website, reporter Mai Phuong commented on the list of nominees: “Overall, this year's list accurately reflects the quality of the players. Outstanding names at the national team and club levels such as Nguyen Hoang Duc, Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Do Hung Dung, and Que Ngoc Hai are all included. In addition, the return after 8 years of naturalized striker Hoang Vu Samson is very noteworthy. At the age of 35, he still scored 10 goals for Ho Chi Minh City FC and helped the team avoid relegation.”

The 2023 Vietnam Golden Ball Award, organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, received professional support and collaboration from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF),and FPT Play. The main sponsor of the award continues to be Thai Son Nam Group Joint Stock Company.

Two highlights of this year's awards are the organizers' decision to add a "contribution" category, alongside the emphasis on fair play, which has been an indispensable element in awards in previous years. VietNamNet reporter Duy Nguyen wrote an analysis of the 2023 Vietnam Golden Ball award, stating: "With the criterion emphasizing fair play, despite his significant contribution to Hanoi's runner-up finish, Van Quyet was not included due to an 8-match suspension in the 2023 V-League."

Meanwhile, reporter Tieu Bao (Thanh Nien Newspaper) emphasized the new feature of this year's voting in his article about the 2023 Vietnam Golden Ball Award: "After a particularly busy year for Vietnamese football, the 2023 Vietnam Golden Ball Award, organized by Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, will have a new feature with the Contribution category."
