These changes are not only due to the policies of the Party and the State, but also to the village elder Y Jao Ayun - a respected figure who led the people through poverty and outdated customs.

Mr. Y Jao Ayun, a respected figure in Cuôr Đăng B hamlet (Cuôr Đăng commune).

For many years, Elder Y Jao Ayun has been a strong bridge between the government and the people. He has always actively coordinated with the village's self-governing committee to promote and encourage villagers to focus on economic development, boldly switch to new crops, and support them in accessing preferential loans for production investment, eliminating the mentality of dependence and reliance. He regularly organizes exchange and sharing sessions, encouraging people to apply science and technology to agricultural production. As a result, the productivity of key crops such as coffee, pepper, and durian has increased significantly, not only providing a stable income but also helping many families become more prosperous.

Not only did he encourage villagers to focus on economic development, but with his prestige, Elder Y Jao Ayun became an "extended arm" of the local government, actively promoting and encouraging people to abandon outdated customs and move towards a progressive and civilized life. He collaborated with the commune government and judicial officials to disseminate information about the Marriage and Family Law, resolutely eradicating child marriage and consanguineous marriage from the village. "We must let our children learn to read and write, let them grow up and gain knowledge before we worry about marriage," Elder Y Jao shared.

Village elder Y Jao Ayun (far right) advises the children in the village to study hard and obey road traffic laws.

The elder also regularly collaborates with village chiefs and community organizations to hold meetings to disseminate legal information, prevent theft and drug abuse, and mediate minor conflicts within the village, helping people "live according to the law and with compassion." For the younger generation, Elder Y Jao frequently admonishes and advises young people against gathering in groups or speeding, which causes traffic safety hazards. When he sees children using electric bicycles to school, Elder Y Jao personally meets with them, urging them to obey traffic laws and wear helmets.

The story of Elder Y Jao is clear evidence that the power of respected individuals is one of the effective bridges to bring policies and guidelines to ethnic minority communities, helping them confidently rise up, take control of their lives, unite to build cultural life, and develop new rural areas in their localities.
