The US House of Representatives has just sent a notice to all members about banning the use of the WhatsApp messaging application of Meta Platforms on all devices of this agency.
The US House of Representatives' announcement said that according to the Office of Cybersecurity, the WhatsApp application is high-risk due to lack of transparency in how to protect user data, no encryption of stored data and other potential security risks.
The US House of Representatives recommends using other messaging apps such as Microsoft's Teams, Amazon's Wickr, Signal, iMessage and Apple's FaceTime.
A Meta spokesperson said the tech giant opposes the move by the US House of Representatives, noting that the WhatsApp platform offers a higher level of security than other approved apps.
In January, a WhatsApp official discovered that spyware company Paragon Solutions was targeting a wide range of WhatsApp users, including journalists and members of civil society organizations.
Previously, the US House of Representatives also banned some applications on members' devices, such as the short video application TikTok, which was banned in 2022 due to security issues.
