Haaland has a very high opinion of the French national team. |
"Most likely, France will beat us and even win the World Cup ," Haaland frankly shared when asked about his preparations for the match against France on June 27th.
That humble statement stands in stark contrast to the devastating form the 25-year-old striker displayed at the tournament in the United States. In just two matches at his first World Cup, Haaland scored four goals, a feat that propelled him to the top of the Golden Boot race alongside Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.
In the victory against Iraq, Haaland scored two goals despite only touching the ball 25 times. The scenario was almost the same in the match against Senegal. After only 11 touches in the first half, the Manchester City star still scored two more goals and finished the game with a mere 23 touches.
In total, Haaland needed only 48 touches in two matches to score four goals. On average, he scored a goal for every 12 times he was involved in Norway's play. These statistics, which seemed straight out of a video game, have become a reality on the biggest football stage on the planet.
Haaland himself didn't try too hard to explain his incredible performance. "I think my strength is simply scoring goals. I'm very good at that and I also have a bit of luck. Honestly, I don't know exactly how I do it," he said.
