HAGL almost lost to Thanh Hoa

Gia Lai Thanks to a late goal by substitute Dinh Thanh Binh, HAGL was able to draw 2-2 with Thanh Hoa in round 8 of V-League 2023 on the afternoon of May 19.

Thanh Hoa are flying high this season, with an unbeaten record and top of the table after seven rounds. But the break for the 32nd SEA Games seems to have thrown them off-balance.

Under pressure from HAGL, Thanh Hoa's defense system showed mistakes. In the 23rd minute, Tien Thanh passed the ball wrongly to Paollo, who then passed the ball to Tran Minh Vuong - who had just returned from injury. From outside the penalty area, the HAGL midfielder shot into the far corner, causing goalkeeper Xuan Hoang to touch the ball but could not prevent the home team from scoring.

About 10 minutes later, Minh Vuong almost scored another goal from Bao Toan's cross-field pass. Goalkeeper Huynh Tuan Linh closed the angle but could not avoid the equalizer 1-1.

The away team was in high spirits and played coherently. HAGL had to retreat deep to defend and counterattack but to no avail. In the 77th minute, Lam Ti Phong successfully stole the ball from Diakite and passed it to Bruno Cunha who broke free and shot directly. Goalkeeper Tuan Linh dove to touch the ball but could not prevent Thanh Hoa from scoring the second goal.

With nothing left to lose, Coach Kiatisuk sent forwards Nguyen Quoc Viet and Dinh Thanh Binh onto the field. And Thanh Binh immediately made his mark. He received a pass from Le Van Son and shot a powerful shot, hitting the crossbar and rolling into the net.

In the 90th minute, Thanh Hoa scored the third goal against HAGL but the referee did not recognize it because he thought Lam Ti Phong was offside. The 2-2 draw means HAGL has yet to win at home this season.

Round 9, HAGL will visit Da Nang while Thanh Hoa will return home to host Viettel .
