According to the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), recently, some agricultural export businesses, such as those exporting pepper and coffee, have reported instances of missing or damaged goods in export containers upon arrival at the importer's hands.

Coffee and pepper exports suspected of being tampered with: Both sides will sit down together for discussions.

The Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) has sent a document to the authorities informing them about the aforementioned incident. However, there is currently no basis to confirm where the loss of goods occurred, given that goods transported from exporter to importer go through many different stages and involve multiple units in handling the goods.

Currently, the Import-Export Department has contacted and exchanged information with the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association and the Saigon Newport Corporation, requesting that both sides meet soon for a direct exchange, provide more information to clarify the cause of the incident, and implement measures to enhance security and safety for import and export shipments. A meeting is scheduled for tomorrow morning, June 13, 2024, to discuss the matter.

Previously, as reported by the Industry and Trade Newspaper, VPSA had submitted a petition to the Vietnam Maritime Administration and the Saigon Newport Corporation regarding the shortage of goods for export at Cat Lai port.

Specifically, the VPSA Association has continuously received feedback from its members regarding reports from importing partners about shortages of pepper and coffee discovered at the destination port compared to previously signed contracts.

Currently, five VPSA members have been reported for the theft of pepper and coffee at Cat Lai port. The summary shows that the volume of lost goods ranges from 7% to 28%, all originating from the same port of entry at Cat Lai and remaining at the port for an extended period due to ship delays.

Regarding this matter, immediately after receiving the official letter from VPSA on June 12th, Saigon Newport Corporation issued a response. According to Saigon Newport Corporation, the unit's functional departments are currently working with competent authorities and agencies to verify the information about the shortage of goods provided by the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association.

Saigon Newport Corporation stated that the risk of cargo loss can occur at many stages, and there is no basis to confirm that it occurred at the port. The flow of goods from the seller's warehouse to the buyer's warehouse, through various stages in the supply chain such as: sea transport, to the unloading port, transport from the port to the importer's warehouse... needs to be verified to avoid misunderstandings and damage to the port's brand.

The fact that the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association published information on its website... before receiving accurate conclusions from the authorities could affect the reputation and brand of Saigon Newport Corporation.
