From the top of Ham Rong Mountain, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Sa Pa town.

According to Mr. Nguyen Truong Quan, Head of Business Department, Ham Rong Eco-tourism Management Board: During its heyday (2014 - 2016), about 70 - 75% of tourists coming to Sa Pa chose Ham Rong as a destination to experience and explore . At the peak of the 2015 tourist season, Ham Rong welcomed about 600,000 visitors, over 15,000 visitors per day.

However, for a long time, Ham Rong tourist area fell into a state of silence. The infrastructure was degraded, services lacked innovation, and there was no investment to upgrade... When mentioning Sa Pa, tourists would think of Fansipan peak, Cat Cat village or luxury resorts instead of the mountain peak associated with the legend of the awakening of the sacred dragon. Especially after the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ham Rong tourist area became even more deserted.

"The transfer of the management unit of Ham Rong Eco-tourism Area has led to limited investment and upgrading, which is the reason why this place has been deserted recently," said Mr. Nguyen Truong Quan.

However, recently, Ham Rong is gradually "awakening" with the return of tourists. Many important items of this eco-tourism area have been renovated and embellished; stone roads are cleaned and beautified; flower gardens are newly planted with brilliant colors; services for tourists such as drinking water, renting costumes for photography... are invested. In particular, the tourist area also organizes sports competitions, races to conquer Ham Rong peak, attracting many athletes to participate and is an opportunity to promote and attract tourists to visit.

Coming to Ham Rong these days, the hustle and bustle has gradually returned, at the sightseeing spots, check-in spots or flower gardens are crowded with tourists experiencing. The return of Ham Rong is not only a positive signal for Sa Pa tourism but also a testament to the enduring vitality of old values ​​if preserved and developed in the right direction. Domestic and foreign tourists have begun to return to Ham Rong, not only to sightsee and take pictures, but also to live slowly, enjoy the cool, fresh green space in the middle of the sky and clouds.

During the April 30 - May 1 holiday, Ham Rong welcomed more than 4,000 visitors, an increase of about 30% compared to the same holiday period in 2024.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, a tourist from Phu Tho shared: I find Ham Rong mountain very beautiful, with rich services, wonderful nature and people. If I return to Sa Pa next time, I will still choose Ham Rong to experience.

Sharing the same feeling with Ms. Xuyen, tourist Keanu from the Philippines said: The scenery is very beautiful, I like the mountain top, the roads and the way people grow flowers here.

To bring Ham Rong back is a great effort of the local government as well as the Tourist Area Management Board. In the 5-season tourism development plan of Sa Pa town, Ham Rong Eco-tourism Area has been paid attention to and focused by the town with many organized activities.

Ham Rong today has a new look but still retains its ancient soul - a place where nature and culture, memories and the present meet.
