Chau Tuyet Van said she was very happy to win the gold medal at the first tournament of the year and shared that her joy was even greater because the tournament had so many teams and athletes participating, like a world championship.

Besides winning the gold medal in the women's standard kata singles under 40, Chau Tuyet Van also won the bronze medal in the mixed doubles creative kata over 17 with her younger teammate.

In addition, Vietnamese Taekwondo also participated in the sparring events with four athletes: Nguyen Hong Trong, Tran Ho Nhan Van, Nguyen Thi Loan, and Nguyen Thi Mai. Notably, Nguyen Hong Trong was the champion at the 33rd SEA Games held in Thailand late last year in the under-54kg weight category.

According to the schedule, the sparring events will take place over two days, March 8th and 9th. After the men's team parted ways with their Iranian coach and are awaiting a new one, the women's sparring athletes are currently being coached by Kim Kil Tea (South Korea), a South Korean coach.
