Solving people's livelihood problems starts with small things.
These days, traveling along National Highway 1A through Ham Thang ward, from Ben Loi bridge to the foot of Phu Long bridge, one can easily feel the changes in the urban landscape. Not only have decorative lights been installed on some roads contributing to the beautification of the area, but many illegal dumpsites that existed for a long time have now disappeared. Instead, there are cleaner, more spacious roads and signs prohibiting littering have been placed in areas that were once "hot spots" of pollution.
In reality, simply focusing on propaganda and cleanup campaigns without addressing people's basic needs makes it difficult to achieve sustainable change. The root of the problem lies in the fact that the frequency of garbage collection is not in line with people's daily lives. Previously, many areas only had garbage collected twice a week, and some small alleys even only once a week, leading to garbage accumulation.
Since the beginning of January 2026, the People's Committee of Ham Thang Ward has intensified daily garbage collection. This initiative quickly received support from local residents. Furthermore, various associations and organizations regularly conduct environmental sanitation campaigns, combining work with public awareness campaigns to encourage residents to participate in maintaining the shared landscape.
The Women's Union of the ward continues to maintain clubs promoting the "5 No's, 3 Cleanliness" family building program in residential areas. Many activities involving exchanging plastic waste for gifts and environmentally friendly products were organized at Phu Long Market and Ham Thang Market, attracting over 1,000 members.
Ms. Pham Thi Ngoc Yen, President of the Women's Union of Ham Thang Ward, said: "Through activities aimed at helping members reduce the use of single-use plastic products, practice waste sorting at source, and raise awareness of environmental protection."

In addition, other social issues are also being addressed in a practical manner. In groups 3 and 5 of Thang Hoa neighborhood, many households living in deep alleys have not had access to clean water for years due to their distance from the main pipeline, while the cost of laying pipelines is beyond the means of farming households.
In light of this situation, the ward requested the Binh Thuan Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company to develop a technical plan and cost estimate for the investment in a water supply system for the area. The localized water shortage during the dry season in Phu Long is also being gradually addressed by expanding the water supply pipelines accordingly...
Building livable cities from safe residential areas.
Besides addressing practical social issues, Ham Thang ward also focuses on building a safe and civilized living environment while maintaining security and order. Since the beginning of June, the management boards of the neighborhoods in the ward have simultaneously implemented the "Drug-Free Neighborhood" model. Neighborhoods 2, 3, 4, and Phu Hoa have been selected as pilot areas in 2026, serving as a foundation for expansion in the 2027-2030 period.

Mr. Tran Van Sang, Vice Chairman of the Ham Thang Ward People's Committee, said that the locality aims to gradually eliminate drug abuse from residential areas, striving to build the ward into a "drug-free" area by 2030. To achieve this, it must start from the grassroots, from each residential area, each household, with the motto "going to every alley, knocking on every door, checking every individual" to detect and prevent potential drug abuse risks from emerging.
Along with maintaining security and order, the ward also launched a movement to build "bright, green, clean, beautiful, and safe" streets. To date, 19 streets have been registered for implementation by the neighborhoods. These renovated streets not only contribute to beautifying the urban landscape but also create more spacious, safe, and livable living spaces for residents.
Recent developments in Ham Thang demonstrate a shift in how the government correctly identifies and addresses the needs of its citizens. When these needs are met, people's trust in the government is strengthened. This forms the foundation for Ham Thang to move towards building a greener, more civilized, and modern urban area in the new phase.
