Police are searching for the person who sent an email threatening a terrorist bomb attack at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, where the opening game of Major League Baseball (MLB) is scheduled to take place on March 20.
According to Yonhap, police said they received a report from an employee at the South Korean Consulate General in Vancouver, Canada, about an email threatening to detonate a bomb during a game between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, targeting superstar Shohei Ohtani and others. The email was written in English and the sender identified himself as a lawyer.
Police are searching for the sender and have deployed 30 commandos and 120 personnel to search the stadium, but no dangerous or suspicious situations have been detected so far. The March 20th game kicked off the 2024 MLB season in Seoul under the name “MLB World Tour Seoul Series 2024.” This also marks the first time MLB has held a tournament in South Korea.
