Happiness smiles

The family of Ms. Ha Thi Thien, from Tan Hung village, Thanh Phong commune (Nhu Xuan district), is happy to have a child.

The arduous journey to find the cries of a baby.

After getting to know each other for a while, in 2004, Ms. Ha Thi Thien and Mr. Ha Van Ban, from Tan Hung village, Thanh Phong commune (Nhu Xuan district), got married. Their home was always filled with happiness as the young couple worked hard and saved money to have their first child. However, one year, two years, three years, then four years passed, and they still hadn't received any good news. The couple decided to pack their bags and take a bus to Hanoi for a medical examination to find out the reason. After a long and arduous 21-year wait for a child, the couple was once again met with disappointment.

“Going to many places for examinations was not only expensive but also incredibly painful, filled with hope followed by endless disappointment. After receiving advice from many people, my husband and I decided to go for an examination at the Reproductive Support Department of Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, where the doctor concluded that we had bilateral fallopian tube blockage, making the chances of natural pregnancy very low. Therefore, after consulting with the doctor, my husband and I agreed to use in-vitro fertilization (IVF),” Ms. Thien shared.

Throughout their journey of "finding" a child, despite the fatigue, hardship, and difficulties, the couple always encouraged and comforted each other with unwavering faith: if it was meant to be, a child would come to them. And after days of waiting and anxiety, on June 3, 2025, the couple were overwhelmed with joy and happiness when their two chubby, adorable baby boys were born.

"Every time we think back on our journey to 'find' our child, my wife and I are deeply moved by the many emotions we experienced, from anxiety, anticipation, hope, disappointment, and then hope again. Our child is a priceless gift that life has given us," Mr. Ha Van Ban confided.

The family of Mr. Ha Van Ban and Ms. Ha Thi Thien is not the only case of successful infertility treatment thanks to assisted reproductive techniques. Many other couples have also received assistance and successful infertility treatment from the doctors, technicians, and staff of the Assisted Reproductive Technology Department at Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital.

Sharing hope, nurturing happiness.

The Reproductive Support Department was established in April 2004. Over the years, with the attention of the hospital's board of directors, the medical staff in the department have continuously learned and improved their professional skills, while applying many advanced techniques with modern and synchronized equipment, resulting in a high success rate in infertility treatment. The pregnancy rate from in-vitro fertilization techniques has steadily increased, from 33% in 2014 to over 65% today.

This is also the first provincial-level unit in Vietnam to master in-vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques. The department consistently leads in the implementation of new techniques, regularly updating its knowledge both domestically and internationally through in-depth, specialized programs. It skillfully applies new techniques comparable to those of major hospitals nationwide, focusing on improving professional activities and enhancing the capacity of its staff to master the technology. The department has focused on perfecting embryo freezing procedures using rapid embryo freezing methods for cases requiring embryo freezing, sperm freezing, egg donation IVF, and the implementation of IVF, IVF/ICSI, and PESA-ICSI with high success rates. The department has also mastered all assisted reproductive techniques in the treatment of infertility, achieving high success rates and increasing the number of babies born through IVF techniques to over 2,000, with many more pregnancies awaiting delivery.

Dr. Cao Thi Dung, Head of the Reproductive Support Department at Thanh Hoa Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, said: “In addition to advanced techniques such as in-vitro fertilization, membrane-assisted embryo transfer, and testicular surgery to find sperm, we also use embryo glue in 100% of embryo transfer cases. All of this has led to the expected results, giving strength and motivation to infertile couples on their journey to having children. We will strive even harder to nurture happiness for infertile families, bringing opportunities and joy to those who want to become parents.”
