The first days of the new year mark the most special natural change of the year. The cold winter with dry branches and bare leaves gradually drifts away. After the spring rains, from those dry branches will soon grow green shoots, mixed with tiny flower buds. Everything seems to be revived after a long winter sleep. Countless flowers bloom everywhere. Join Heritage Magazine to see spring flowers on a journey through the valleys in the Northern mountains.
The earliest to show off its beauty is the 5-petal pink flower with long red pistils, clustered together in large clusters on tall stems. This flower symbolizes strong vitality because it only blooms in harsh weather. The colder the temperature, the darker the flower color. The time when the flowers bloom signals the New Year of the H'Mong people, which usually takes place about a month before the Lunar New Year. In Mu Cang Chai - Yen Bai, the flower forests are spread out in the communes of Mo De, Che Cu Nha, De Xu Phinh, Nam Khat... and are most concentrated in La Pan Tan.
From late January to early February, when the weather is less dry and warmer, the plum blossom valleys in Moc Chau plateau begin to bloom simultaneously. The plum trees here do not grow sporadically but close together so that when they bloom, everywhere seems to be covered with an endless white carpet, spreading from one hill to another. The plum flowers form thick bunches, the thin petals hug the yellow pistil, and after about 1 weeks they will fall with the wind, leaving lovely green fruit shoots.
Many places have beautiful plum blossoms such as Tan Lap, Phieng Canh, Na Ka, Ang village, Van Ho, Ba Phach... but in recent years, Mu Nau has become the most beautiful and pristine plum valley in Moc Chau. Overcoming many dangerous steep passes, the white plum blossom valley appears at an altitude of over 1.000m above sea level.
Plum blossoms here are considered to bloom more evenly than in the valleys below, with many ancient plum gardens planted on mountain slopes, mixed with mossy rocks, ancient cliffs and primeval forests.
