The group traveled to the Ba Hon National Historical and Scenic Site in Hon Dat commune to offer incense and flowers and pay respects at the tomb of the female Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Phan Thi Rang. The incense sticks and bows before the hero's tomb expressed profound respect and gratitude for her contributions. We listened to explanations about her battles and sacrifices, and viewed the artifacts that have been carefully and respectfully preserved.
Leaving the historical site with teary eyes, grieving for the hero who sacrificed herself at such a young age, we silently thanked her for her sacrifice so that our generation could understand the value of patriotism and courage in the face of all enemies. We continued towards Thien Cam Son, where students face immense hardship and deprivation but still diligently attend school to learn. Stopping at the foot of the mountain as the sun reached its zenith, the mountain sunshine mingled with the cool spring air, filling our hearts with warmth. We had to transfer the gift boxes to another vehicle; we couldn't carry them up the mountain ourselves, as the road to the mountain passed through many checkpoints. With the help of the local Party committee and government, and especially Mr. Ma Van Lam, a resident of Nui Cam commune, who enthusiastically assisted the group in quickly gathering the gift boxes and delivering them to the destination.
At lunchtime, the group enjoyed local mountain specialties, including savory pancakes (banh xeo) served with wild herbs. The pancakes were golden brown and crispy, accompanied by a generous plate of various vegetables, such as mulberry shoots and avocado shoots. The filling was made from mung beans, mushrooms, bean sprouts, and Sesbania flowers. After enjoying the meal, we checked into our rooms to rest before moving on to An Hao B Primary School and Nui Cam Secondary School to rearrange the gifts and prepare games for the children as part of the Spring Volunteer program.
On this occasion, the organizers provided support to An Hao B Primary School and Nui Cam Secondary School with 500 red scarves, a "love bus" (a vehicle of compassion), and 50 gifts for students in difficult circumstances, helping them feel secure in attending classes. The atmosphere was lively and bustling as the children participated in games, sweating profusely from the mountain sun, and dust lingering on the schoolyard, but this did not diminish the enthusiasm of the Spring Volunteer program.
Thanh Ngan, a student from Nui Cam Junior High School, expressed: “Today was a very happy day for me because I received many gifts. My friends also received gifts. There were many fun games; we rarely get to have such enjoyable activities up in the mountains. I wish there would be more days like this so we can have fun to our heart's content after school. I will try my best to study hard so as not to disappoint the older students.”
Mr. Le Phan Dinh Qui, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province, said: “The youth of An Giang in general and the youth of the Youth Union of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Giang province in particular are deeply aware of their responsibility to the community and society. They promote the pioneering, volunteer, and creative spirit of youth. For many years, the Spring Volunteer program has become an annual activity with profound humanitarian significance, clearly demonstrating the role of the Youth Union in social welfare work, caring for vulnerable groups, especially disadvantaged children.”
The 2026 Spring Volunteer Program is organized with the desire to contribute a small but practical effort from young people to join hands with the Party committee, government, and mass organizations to take care of Tet (Lunar New Year) for students and families in difficult circumstances. Through this, we aim to help them have a more fulfilling Tet, both materially and spiritually, so that spring truly becomes a season of love, sharing, and hope. “Each gift and each activity in today's program not only has material value but also conveys the care, responsibility, and sincere feelings of youth union members towards the community. It is also a vivid testament to the spirit of 'wherever youth are needed, youth will be there; whatever is difficult, youth will overcome it',” said Mr. Qui.
Despite the cool spring weather halfway up Thien Cam Mountain, the children's hearts remained warm because of the values that the Youth Union members had brought to the students in the mountainous region. At the end of the trip, each member of the Youth Union experienced a very special day, demonstrating the role and responsibility of young people, and contributing a small but meaningful effort to the local community and society.
