Source Sonny Dickson has just shared more prototypes of the iPhone 17 series. These images reveal significant design changes for the iPhone 17 Pro duo, going beyond even the completely new horizontal camera module on the back that has been discussed recently.
Dickson points out that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models have a marked area on the back, starting just below the camera cluster and extending down to the bottom of the frame. According to Dickson, this will be “where the glass material will change.”

According to leaked information from Fixed Focus Digital (China), the iPhone 17 Pro will use a combination of glass and metal. Specifically, the glass will be located around the Apple logo and integrated into the overall metal frame. This explains the red areas that appeared in previous CAD images of the iPhone 17 Pro.
According to The Information, Apple chose a half-glass, half-aluminum design for its high-end devices to increase durability. The glass layer helps maintain wireless charging functionality, while the aluminum frame reduces the risk of breakage compared to a full glass design.

Currently, the iPhone 16 Pro still uses a titanium frame – a significant change that Apple introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro. However, moving into the iPhone 17 generation, Apple is expected to bring the entire product line back to an aluminum frame.
As previously leaked news and CAD images suggested, the newly shared model further confirms that Apple will adopt a horizontal, elongated camera module design on the back for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air models, but not for the standard version.
These prototypes also demonstrate a smoother transition between the camera module and the back panel, thanks to Apple's new glass-metal bonding process.
Additionally, this image confirms that all iPhone 17 models – including the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air – will support MagSafe.
With major design changes, this will be one of the most significant visual upgrades on Apple's high-end iPhone lineup in recent years.
