From the small amounts of money saved each day, friendships are nurtured, and love spreads to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Nurturing compassion in schools
"Saving money in piggy banks - Sharing love" is an annual activity, widely implemented in every student union branch of Nguyen Duy Hieu High School (Dien Ban ward).
In the spirit of "helping those in need," each student voluntarily saves 5,000 VND per week to "feed the piggy bank." These small daily savings are nurtured by the students with a spirit of sharing and a sense of community responsibility, reflecting the youthful spirit of the school community.
As Tet (Lunar New Year) approaches, the youth union branches organize a piggy bank smashing event, collecting all the saved money to donate practical Tet gifts to underprivileged students in the school.

This activity not only provides material support but also has profound educational significance, fostering in students a spirit of compassion and a thrifty lifestyle, thereby spreading the positive values of friendship and humanity within the school environment.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cao Vien, Secretary of the Youth Union of Nguyen Duy Hieu High School, the "Saving Piggy Bank" activity has been maintained by the school's Youth Union for many years to create a fund to care for and support students in difficult circumstances during Tet (Lunar New Year).
“Each piggy bank is a place where students from the entire school express their love and compassion. When the piggy banks are broken open at the end of the year, it's a time when love is spread, helping underprivileged students find joy and motivation to excel in their studies and lives,” shared teacher Nguyen Cao Vien.
Spreading humanitarian values
One of the innovative and effective ways to integrate the "Saving Money in a Piggy Bank" model is the activity implemented at Le Do Secondary School (An Hai Ward).

The school incorporated this content into the Folk Culture Festival, linking it with experiential activities, career guidance, and local education. Therefore, the festival not only helps students better understand the cultural, historical, and cultural values of their homeland but also creates a learning environment rich in emotion, excitement, and pride.
A special highlight of the program was the calligraphy and Tet couplet writing competition combined with an auction to raise funds for the "Charity Piggy Bank" project, attracting the attention and support of numerous teachers, students, and parents.
Students transformed into "little calligraphers" for 45 minutes to create calligraphy and couplets imbued with the atmosphere of traditional Tet (Lunar New Year).
The students' artworks were also put up for public auction, creating a lively and meaningful atmosphere.
As a result, the total amount raised from the auction of the calligraphy works reached nearly 35 million VND. Of this amount, 50% was used to give Tet gifts to underprivileged students of the school during the Lunar New Year, and the remaining 50% was added to the "Saving Money in a Piggy Bank" fund of the classes.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Mo, homeroom teacher of class 6/14, expressed: "Hopefully, from these small calligraphy works, students from disadvantaged backgrounds will have more motivation to always strive to excel in their studies and in life."

At Tra Nam Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School (Tra Linh commune), the "Saving Piggy Banks for Love" movement was launched during the Monday morning flag-raising ceremony, while the early morning mist still covered the schoolyard in the highlands.
Mr. Vo Dang Chin, Party Secretary and Principal of the school, launched the movement with the Ca Dong and Xo Dang students.
The children lined up neatly, putting their small savings into the piggy bank. Their clear eyes and innocent smiles conveyed a spirit of sharing with their classmates who were less fortunate.
Ho Thi Thu An, a student at Tra Nam Ethnic Boarding Primary and Secondary School, said: “The money I put in my piggy bank isn't much, it's what I saved from my breakfast, but I hope it will help my friends who are in difficult circumstances. When I see them have more books, notebooks, and new clothes to wear to school, I feel happier too.”
The piggy banks quietly fill up day by day, carrying small coins and big hearts. When spring arrives, from this simple act of sharing, love is given and trust is sown, so that the journey of compassion continues to spread within the school.
