In 2025, Quang Ninh Clean Water Joint Stock Company officially put the Khe Mai Water Treatment Plant ( thuộc Van Don Waterworks) into operation, marking an important step in improving water supply capacity in the area. The comprehensive investment in the plant, equipment, and modern treatment technology, combined with automation in operation control, not only contributes to expanding the water supply coverage but also significantly improves the quality and stability of the water supply for the people.

With a designed capacity of approximately 6,000 m³/day, the plant has gradually met the growing water demand of the area. Since becoming operational, the number of customers receiving clean water has increased from about 8,500 to over 9,000 households, not only within the Van Don Special Economic Zone but also extending to serve a portion of Cua Ong ward. This is clear evidence of the effectiveness of investing in modern water supply infrastructure, contributing to improved living conditions and a higher quality of life for the people.
Since the Khe Mai Water Treatment Plant began operating with its modern, highly automated treatment technology, the Van Don Waterworks has significantly reduced its direct labor force while proactively and strictly controlling the quality of both incoming and outgoing water. The system also allows for automatic adjustment of chemical quantities and raw water flow rates, as well as timely detection and warning of incidents in the water supply network for quick resolution, minimizing major damage, reducing losses, and ensuring the quality of water supplied to the people.
Over the past period, Quang Ninh Clean Water Joint Stock Company has identified digital transformation and the application of high technology as key solutions to improve production and business efficiency and customer service quality. Accordingly, the company has focused on investing in automation at its water treatment plants and pumping stations. PLC, HMI, and SCADA control systems, combined with measuring sensors and IoT technology, have been implemented synchronously, allowing for real-time monitoring and operation. As a result, many plants have achieved a high level of automation, tightly controlling operating parameters and water quality indicators at each stage, from raw water to post-treatment and across the entire network. In particular, the digitization of the water supply system on a GIS map platform, linking the entire pipeline network with field data, has created a visual tool that effectively serves the management, maintenance, and development of the system, ensuring stable, safe, and sustainable water supply.

In addition, the company has promoted the standardization and digitization of all processes and records; implemented task assignment and management at teams and stations through software; and used electronic logs and operating records, thereby enhancing transparency and management efficiency. The company also developed the My Quawaco application with many features such as cashless payment, feedback reception, notification sending, etc., creating a convenient two-way interaction channel between customers and the water supply unit. Simultaneously, a smart call center and social media platforms have been integrated, contributing to improving the quality of service for the people.
In 2026, Quang Ninh province aims for over 95.5% of its urban population to have access to clean water through a centralized water supply system. To achieve this goal, the province has implemented various solutions to expand the network, improve water supply capacity, and meet the daily needs of its people.
In the first quarter of 2026, the province will complete and put into operation the An Sinh Water Treatment Plant and the Yen Lap Water Treatment Plant. The An Sinh Water Treatment Plant has a capacity of 90,000 m³/day, supplying clean water to the An Sinh, Dong Trieu, Binh Khe, and Mao Khe wards. The Yen Lap Water Treatment Plant has a capacity of 26,000 m³/day, supplying water to the Bai Chay, Quang Yen areas and part of Uong Bi. The commissioning of these projects has contributed to improving water supply capacity, expanding service coverage, and gradually completing the water supply system towards a synchronized and modern system.
