The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is a particularly important political event, marking the beginning of a new development phase and leading Vietnam steadily into an era of national progress. Given its historical significance and magnitude, many National Assembly delegates believe and expect that the Congress will set forth strategic directions to realize the aspiration of Vietnam becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.

The beginning of a new development journey.

The 14th National Congress has the theme: “Under the glorious banner of the Party, working together to successfully achieve the national development goals by 2030; self-reliant and confident in advancing strongly in the era of national progress, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilization, happiness, and steadily advancing towards socialism.” This is a creative inheritance and development of the themes of previous Congresses; at the same time, it reflects a new development in the Party's strategic thinking in the face of profound changes in the current domestic and international situation.

Bui Hoai Son, a full-time National Assembly delegate on the Committee for Culture and Social Affairs, affirmed that the theme of the 14th National Congress has profound significance, serving as a comprehensive political message, "both imbued with traditional spirit and reflecting the pulse of the times." The theme of the 14th National Congress is also seen as "a call to action, a mandate, and a promise to the people." This is because the theme encompasses three important layers of meaning: establishing development goals; strengthening the nation's strategic resolve; and affirming the values ​​and development path that the country has steadfastly chosen.

The 14th National Congress of the Party is not only the most important political event of the country in 2026, but will also mark the beginning of a new development journey – where the vision, aspirations, and policies set forth by our Party will continue to be established, leading the entire nation to further achieve breakthrough development in the context of a world and region undergoing rapid, profound, and unpredictable changes.

It is noteworthy that the concept of "the era of national resurgence" was included in the theme of the 14th National Congress of the Party as a milestone marking the beginning of a new stage of national development, a stage of breakthroughs and comprehensive acceleration in all fields. This concept was initiated by General Secretary To Lam and has become a recurring theme in many important Party documents and resolutions, as well as speeches by Party and State leaders... The inclusion of this concept in the theme of the 14th National Congress of the Party demonstrates a very strong political determination to realize the aspiration of a strong national resurgence in the new era.

In particular, according to National Assembly Deputy Bui Hoai Son, when speaking about the "era of national resurgence," the core lies not in strong slogans, but in the ability to transform aspirations into national capacity, will into institutions, resolutions into actions, resources into results, and growth into quality of life. The era of national resurgence is an era of innovative thinking on development; decisive institutional reform; science and technology, innovation and digital transformation; and at the same time, an era of building human resources, revitalizing culture, and strengthening the spiritual and moral foundations of society. Without a strong cultural foundation, there cannot be a confident and sustainable nation. Without strong people, there cannot be strong internal strength. Without social trust, there cannot be a breakthrough.

A new aspect of the 14th National Congress's theme is the inclusion of "strategic autonomy" as a consistent requirement. This is a modern way of thinking, reflecting a broad and deep vision of how a small and medium-sized nation can stand firm in a restructuring geopolitical environment. Affirming this, National Assembly Deputy Bui Hoai Son emphasized that "strategic autonomy" is not only a foreign policy choice, but also an inherent capacity of the institution, the economy, science and technology, human resources, and especially cultural identity. "Strategic autonomy" also means autonomy in will, identity, autonomy in choosing the path of development and protecting the core values ​​of the nation in the flow of globalization.

Regarding the theme of the 14th National Congress of the Party, National Assembly Deputy Bui Hoai Son placed great faith in the new phase because, after the experiences of 2025 – a year of strong reforms in institutions, organization, and national governance – our country has accumulated a sufficiently solid foundation to enter a higher development trajectory. The 14th National Congress of the Party will create a new qualitative leap in strategic thinking, not only identifying the right goals but also designing a scientific and feasible path to achieve them, Deputy Bui Hoai Son believes and expects.

Affirming this, National Assembly Deputy Tran Thi Nhi Ha (Hanoi) analyzed: The 14th National Congress of the Party took place in the context of many changes in the world situation, and the country faced many challenges and difficulties, but also opportunities and advantages. This context required the 14th National Congress of the Party to set bigger goals with strategic directions and breakthrough solutions to address difficulties and challenges more flexibly and effectively.

Noting this, National Assembly Deputy Duong Khac Mai also emphasized, "When we seize opportunities and solve the problems posed by practice and the times, we will achieve our aspirations."

National Assembly Deputy Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy (Tay Ninh) believes that the 14th National Congress of the Party is a turning point in history, opening a new era of national development. Against this new backdrop, the draft documents submitted to the 14th National Congress of the Party, with many important and groundbreaking new points, are expected to provide new theories, new understandings, and new thinking for the Party on comprehensively leading the implementation of national development tasks in all fields.

Another important point, according to National Assembly Deputy Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy, is that the draft document submitted to the Congress affirms the policy of continuing to build and comprehensively and synchronously improve the institutional framework for rapid and sustainable national development. In particular, it clearly states: "The political institution is key, the economic institution is central, and other institutions are very important."
