Manchester United's leadership decided to place their trust in Carrick instead of Solskjaer when appointing him as manager for the remainder of the season. This choice quickly paid off, as the former Red Devils midfielder made an impressive debut with a 2-0 victory in the Manchester derby on January 17th, thereby giving a significant morale boost to the entire team.
Carrick previously served as an assistant and first-team coach under Solskjaer for nearly three years. Therefore, the relationship between the two is not just professional but also a close friendship.

Speaking to the media, Carrick said he had spoken to Solskjaer and received great encouragement. The Norwegian coach expressed his delight at the team's positive results and wished Carrick and his colleagues good luck.
When asked if he sought advice from Solskjaer, Carrick affirmed that he always keeps in touch with many friends in the football world, ready to consult them when needed. However, the former Manchester United midfielder also emphasized that he doesn't have a habit of bothering others, even though Solskjaer is always there as a reliable source of support.
Carrick's next match as Manchester United's head coach will be a challenging away game at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium on the evening of January 25th.
Despite having beaten Arsenal during his interim period in 2021, manager Carrick believes past results don't hold much significance. He argues that the most important thing is the confidence, spirit, and positive signs the team has shown in training and matches since he took over.
