The flowers grow in large clusters like the flame trees in urban areas, parks, and schools… and sometimes they intertwine and hang down along the trunks of old pine trees, creating vibrant patches of color that seem to “light up” the deep green pine forest.

From the path winding up the hillside, the red blossoms of the flame tree intertwine with the pine needles, appearing and disappearing intermittently. From a higher vantage point, the vibrant red flowers spread out in streaks, softening the monotony of the green pine forest.

Not only found in Vong Canh, but also in many pine forests in Kim Long ward (formerly Huong Tho commune), this flower is in full bloom. In one corner of the pine forest, the mountain flame tree flowers cover the area in large clusters, standing out against the hills and creating a rare landscape.

According to research, "mountain phoenix" or forest phoenix vine is a woody climbing plant that grows naturally in forests. The plant doesn't grow independently but clings to other trees to climb, so the flowers often appear at various heights, not in a specific order. Phoenix flowers usually bloom in sunny, well-ventilated locations.

The flowers are a deep red , and their shape is similar to that of the flamboyant tree. However, unlike the flamboyant tree – a large woody tree associated with streets, parks, and schools, and blooming in the summer – the flamboyant tree usually blooms earlier, starting in spring. This flower is a vine, commonly known as the "chạc" or "dây quánh" in folk terminology.

Notably, in recent years, this species of tree has not only been found in forests but has also been brought to be planted in some public spaces in the inner city of Hue. In Phu Xuan Park (on the north bank of the Perfume River, next to Phu Xuan Bridge), the mountain flame tree has begun to adapt, adding a new splash of color to the riverside landscape. In addition, many families in Hue also plant this tree in front of their houses as a choice to create a natural focal point.

According to experts in landscaping and ecology, the flamboyant tree is not a typical urban tree but rather a woody vine characteristic of humid forests. Its vigorous growth and abundant flowering in pine forests indicate suitable ecological conditions for this species. Bringing flamboyant trees from the mountains and forests to parks and residential areas opens up new avenues for exploiting their landscape value, creating unique spaces for this tree to thrive.

Amidst the deep green of the Vong Canh pine forest, the vibrant red of the flame tree blossoms adds to the beauty of this scenic hillside. An early flame tree blossom season allows visitors and locals alike to pause, slow down, and appreciate the unique, tranquil, and distinct rhythm of Hue's nature.
