Through discussions with local authorities, the Fukui Coast Guard reported that at approximately 2:00 AM on March 21st, they received a report of an accident caused by large waves near the breakwater leading to the Mikuni Lighthouse, resulting in several people being swept into the sea. Japan immediately dispatched ships and helicopters to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations. The Vietnamese Embassy has directly contacted the rescued citizens to provide timely support and protection, ensuring their legal rights and interests are fully protected. Currently, Japanese authorities are continuing the search for three missing individuals.

According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, on March 21, 2026, eight Vietnamese workers were involved in an accident due to large waves in the sea area of Fukui Prefecture. The incident resulted in one death, three missing persons, one injured person currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and three rescued unharmed.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is urgently coordinating with relevant agencies, local authorities, and domestic agencies to further promote the search and rescue of missing persons and to verify the identities of victims, promptly notifying their families so that necessary procedures regarding funeral arrangements can be carried out in a timely manner.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan advises Vietnamese citizens working and living in Japan not to go to sea during thunderstorms, and to avoid areas with warnings of high waves, strong winds, and dangerous terrain, especially at night, to prevent unfortunate accidents.
