On the morning of June 29th, Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC announced their new head coach, a Spanish national. Gerard Albadalejo has returned to Vietnam to help the team from Binh Duong achieve promotion.
The team from the Southeast region emphasized: "The appointment of the Spanish strategist is part of a serious and comprehensive preparation plan for the new season."
With a determination to build a team full of ambition, character, and high fighting spirit, the team aims to compete for promotion and return to the highest level of Vietnamese football."
Coach Albadalejo, born in 1983, has extensive experience managing clubs in Spain such as Lleida FC, Orihuela, and Badalona. He previously coached Ninh Binh FC in the 2025-2026 season.
He was sacked by Ninh Binh in early March 2026 after three consecutive losses in the V-League. Despite this, he still received much respect for his ball-controlling style, high-intensity pressing, and organizational skills. That's why the Binh Duong team chose him for the First Division season.
Details regarding the timeframe and cost for the Spanish coach have not been disclosed. However, according to Tuoi Tre Online 's sources, the two sides will work together for one year before considering an extension. Albadalejo's goal and nhiệm vụ is to lead Becamex TP.HCM to promotion to the V-League.
With this decision, Coach Hua Hien Vinh will step down from his position as head coach and return to youth development. The future of Technical Director Dang Tran Chinh remains uncertain.
Becamex Ho Chi Minh City FC will be relegated from the V-League 2025-2026 after finishing 14th out of 14 participating clubs. After 22 years playing in the top division, the relegation of "Vietnam's Chelsea" is a shock to many Vietnamese football fans.
