Learn from Uncle Ho to build our homeland.

Việt NamViệt Nam04/07/2024

Our return to Nam Lu commune (Muong Khuong district) was shortened. More than a year ago, the road to the commune center was in disarray, and looking across the surrounding hills, the sound of machinery filled the air with the hustle and bustle of road construction. Today, from a high vantage point, the villages of the Nung and Mong ethnic groups are connected by a "white silk ribbon" stretched across the mountains and hills. A sense of prosperity is gradually emerging in this once impoverished rural area.

The Party Secretary of the commune, Nung Thi Thu, said: "In 2023 alone, four rural roads, totaling 16.7 km, were completed, leading to the farmers' production areas and connecting the villages. The people are very happy."

So, how did the rural landscape improve so dramatically? The head of the local Party committee affirmed: It all stems from the learning and following of President Ho Chi Minh's teachings by cadres, Party members, and people of all ethnic groups in the commune!

Initially hesitant about the gains and losses of donating land for the road, after being informed and encouraged by the commune and village authorities, the people of Nam Lu understood that "patriotism requires emulation." Seeing the well-developed roads and thriving trade in neighboring areas, they felt a strong desire to do the same, and thus, the people here unanimously agreed and competed in road construction. Nung, Mong, and Kinh households donated 9.7 hectares of land along with countless assets they had painstakingly cultivated, including approximately 1,000 tea plants, 1,200 cinnamon trees, 200 mandarin trees, and various other crops, making way for the road. The routes from Ta Then - Pac Tra, Khau Na (Nam Lu commune) - Nam Do (Lung Khau Nhin commune), Provincial Road 154 from Pac Ngam village - Ta Then - Nam Ooc and Sao Co Sin (Nam Lu commune) - Sin Lung Chai (Lung Khau Nhin commune) thus crisscross the impoverished land, hoping to create momentum for other aspects of social life in the highlands.

On the day we returned, Nam Lu welcomed the first summer rain, a blessing from heaven, making the tea buds greener and the fields more fertile. Motorbikes lined up, heading towards the production areas from all directions, no longer worried about the weather. On the newly paved road, we made our way to Nam Ooc village, home to more than 50 Nung households. From a poor village high in the mountains, Nam Ooc has now transformed into a shining example for the local community.

In the Nung language, the village's name means "where water flows out," implying that the village has a large water source, providing water for the Nung people to live and work. However, due to poverty, despite the abundant water resources, the villagers are confined to cultivating only one crop of rice and corn per year. Dreams of a prosperous future are often overshadowed by the dream of a solid road.

In 2019, when the local authorities began constructing the main village road, the villagers joined forces to realize their dream. The road, over 2 km long and 3 m wide, was built amidst the enthusiastic spirit of the villagers. Mr. Vang Van E, the village Party Secretary, recalled: "Households actively contributed labor, and some even brought packed lunches or contributed rice to save travel time." Recognizing the benefits of the road – that wherever it opened, poverty and backwardness were pushed back – that spirit once again surged in the village in 2023 as the villagers joined forces to build an internal field road connecting the villages.

With the roads completed, the villagers began exploiting the advantages to develop the economy . Clearly identifying their strengths in agricultural production, based on the general policies of the district, commune, and village, along with the diligence of the local people, they have transformed the hills into green spaces, cultivating over 100 hectares of rice, 80 hectares of corn, and more than 30 hectares of tea. No longer experiencing days of food shortages, no longer a remote village high in the mountains, Nấm Oọc now seems to have donned a new look.

In a purely agricultural rural area like Nam Ooc, each family strives to build a civilized life, each farmer works diligently, and each Party member consciously sets an example… Thus, the whole village learns from Uncle Ho.

Party Secretary of Vang Van E village

Vang Van E, Party Secretary of the village branch, said: "To make learning and following Uncle Ho's teachings more familiar and accessible, the village branch propagates to the villagers the importance of learning from Uncle Ho through even the smallest actions."

Upholding the spirit of "party members leading the way," many party members in the village not only pioneered in donating land for road construction but also set a leading example in the economic development emulation movement. A prime example is Party member Lung Van Kinh. His two-story house was built through hard work and production. Besides his corn and cassava fields, Kinh was one of the first households in the village to participate in tea cultivation, with over 2 hectares since 2020. In livestock farming, he focuses on raising black pigs, averaging two litters per year. In 2023 alone, his family earned nearly 300 million VND from livestock and farming.

The good news is that in the village Party branch, there are many other Party members who are also striving to contribute to building prosperous families and a thriving homeland, such as Lung Van Thuong, Lu Van Thon, Vang Van Chien, etc.

Looking broadly at the entire Party Committee of Nam Lu commune, in recent years, studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings has become a regular practice for cadres, Party members, and people of all ethnic groups in the area. Along with setting a good example, and deeply understanding Uncle Ho's teaching: "Unity is an extremely precious tradition of the Party and our people," in recent times, "unity" has become the key that the Party Committee of Nam Lu commune has used to open previously closed "doors" in each village and hamlet, and to unlock even difficult tasks, mobilizing and gathering the inherent strength of the people. Unity to build the homeland, unity in helping each other develop the economy…

Through practical actions and learning from President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, every cadre, Party member, and citizen of the ethnic groups in Nam Lu commune has been and continues to compete and contribute to improving the appearance of this highland commune and increasing the prosperity of its people. The spirit of learning from President Ho Chi Minh will continue to be promoted by the locality so that Nam Lu can successfully accomplish its tasks in the coming time.

Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Lu Commune, Nung Thi Thu
