From being an all-around excellent student and the top-scoring student in the entrance exam...

Ngo Thu Ha was born and raised in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province. Coming from a family with a tradition of academic excellence, Ha was conscious of the importance of learning from a young age. From her middle school years, Ha demonstrated the qualities of an all-around excellent student. In 2016, she achieved the top score in the entrance exam for 10th grade at Hung Vuong Specialized High School.

During her high school years, besides being an excellent student, Ha also achieved many accomplishments in competitions such as: First prize in Phu Tho province in mathematics and chemistry, second prize in the Hanoi mathematics competition, a silver medal in the exchange program for outstanding students from specialized high schools in the coastal and northern delta regions, and first prize in the provincial-level mathematics competition for outstanding students for two consecutive years.

From a young age, Ha dreamed of pursuing a career in medicine. Therefore, when she reached high school, she focused most of her time on studying mathematics, chemistry, and biology to prepare for the university entrance exam in the science stream, with the goal of getting into Hanoi Medical University .

After the high school graduation exam, Ha became the top student nationwide in 2019 with 29.8 points (Mathematics 9.8; Chemistry 10 and Biology 10) . Ha felt that her hard work had been deservedly rewarded.

Ha is now a student at Hanoi Medical University.

Ha was admitted to Hanoi Medical University , majoring in Medicine. She chose this university to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor.

Upon entering university, Ha understood that entrance exam scores were not the deciding factor in her future studies. Becoming valedictorian boosted her confidence but also reminded her that this was a new journey and she needed to put in her best effort on her path to becoming a doctor. Valedictorian wasn't the destination, but just a moment that showed Ha how hard she had tried.

...to becoming valedictorian during their university years

During her university studies, Ha once again achieved the title of valedictorian . She received academic achievement scholarships for excellent and outstanding grades in all semesters, as well as a Mitsubishi scholarship for the first two years and a Da Huong scholarship for the following two years. In her first three years of university, Ha received a certificate of merit as the valedictorian of the year, having the highest overall GPA in her cohort.

Besides her studies, Ha also participates in school clubs and last year had the honor of joining the Communist Party of Vietnam .

However, looking back, she said she didn't want to cling to the title of valedictorian of her high school, as those were just past achievements. She wanted to break free from the shadow of her past valedictorian status. Ha felt she needed to change, study better, and constantly strive towards the future to become a good doctor.

When Ha went to university, she received a certificate for being the top student.

Since leaving her hometown for Hanoi, Ha has been living with her sister. Now, Ha is a four-year university student. Her day consists of clinical classes in the morning, theoretical classes in the afternoon, and one night a week on duty at the hospital. "The fourth year is quite challenging compared to the previous three years. On average, I have exams every two weeks, and I have to study new subjects while also reviewing previous ones. But I have to try my best; I only have two more years until graduation," Ha shared.

Looking back on the four years since becoming the top student in the high school graduation exam, Ha has truly matured, learned a lot of knowledge, and gained many skills through her training at medical school.

Ha also admitted that the top student only knew about studying all day and didn't know much about soft skills or social awareness. However, Ha believes that these things can be improved when studying at university, because the new environment not only teaches knowledge but also soft skills and social awareness.

According to Ha, the training she received during high school and her achievement as valedictorian supplemented her knowledge, providing a fundamental foundation for her development in her medical studies and enabling her to adapt to the vast amount of knowledge required at university.

"I think the downside of becoming valedictorian at a young age is that it's easy to become complacent and arrogant, failing to continue striving. Additionally, the title of valedictorian can easily lead to excessive expectations from those around you and yourself regarding your academic performance in university," Ha expressed.

Ha joined the Party while she was still a student.

According to Ha, becoming valedictorian doesn't help much with future career prospects, because the most important thing in a job is specialized knowledge and skills acquired through training during university and postgraduate studies. That's what Ha understands and needs to strive to accumulate.

Ha also congratulated this year's top-scoring students. However, she advised them that what they need to do now is choose a suitable university, set goals, and continue studying to acquire knowledge and hone the skills that will be useful for their future careers.

"Let today's graduation exam results be the motivation to continue striving for the next heights on your path to adulthood, and let's temporarily forget about my title as valedictorian," Ha said.
