Mr. Trieu with his children and grandchildren on their graduation day.
In his graduation gown, Mr. Trieu was radiant with joy, quickly greeting teachers and classmates, and taking souvenir photos. His children and grandchildren also came to school to share his joy, everyone was proud that their father and grandfather graduated with gray hair. When Mr. Trieu's name was called to receive his Intermediate Law diploma, we saw the emotion of him and his children and grandchildren in the audience.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trieu currently resides in Tan Quoi Kinh Hamlet, Tan Binh Commune, Can Tho City, and is currently the Head of the Local Security Team. He said that due to difficult family circumstances, he had to drop out of school after finishing 9th grade to help his parents. At the age of 18, he became a commune food accountant, then went through many local tasks such as the commune People's Committee office, hamlet positions, etc.
For many years, Mr. Trieu has participated in mediation work at the grassroots level. During the mediation process, he did not fully understand many legal issues, requiring him to consult and learn from many sources. In 2020, his wife passed away due to illness. Feeling sad at home, he thought about going to college to study Law. In 2023, with the encouragement of his two children, Mr. Trieu registered to study and after about 2 years, he held his diploma in his hand, fulfilling his dream of improving his knowledge of the law.
Mr. Trieu recalled that in the first days of school, after several decades, he was very confused. In the class, there were some classmates who were about his age, but most of the rest were old enough to be his children and grandchildren, so he was a bit apprehensive. Writing and doing homework was not easy at the age of nearly 60. But after just a few weeks, getting to know his teachers and friends, he gradually adapted to the learning environment. "With a lot of effort, and with the encouragement of my teachers, classmates and especially my children and grandchildren, I have fulfilled my life's dream," Mr. Trieu said emotionally.
When asked what he wanted when he decided to go to school at the age of nearly 60, he smiled and shared: "Definitely not to get promoted." The most important thing is that he wants to improve his knowledge and complete his local tasks well. When participating in mediation work, he is required to explain things "reasonably", meaning that in addition to neighborly love, he must ensure the rule of law and social justice on the basis of the law. Therefore, when approaching the law in the fields of land, marriage and family, civil affairs, etc., he is often confused, but after going to school, he feels much more confident. What he does not fully understand, he also learns from teachers and friends to improve his knowledge. But for Mr. Trieu, the most important thing is that he goes to school to set an example for his children and grandchildren, spreading the spirit of studiousness and lifelong learning.
Both of his children are highly educated, and his grandchildren are well-behaved, which makes him very proud. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Men, Mr. Trieu's son, said: "When we knew that my father intended to go to school, everyone in the family supported him. He studied very diligently and hard. That is also an example for me and I use that to teach my children. I am happy that today my father received his diploma." In Mr. Men's eyes, we saw pride in his father who overcame difficulties, was studious, and was a shining example for his children and grandchildren to follow.
