On January 19, the Truth National Political Publishing House launched Quang Tri Memories - a book collected and compiled by researcher Nguyen Thuy Kha, to vividly depict the 81 days and nights of battle to protect Quang Tri Citadel during the "fiery summer" of 1972.
The book Quang Tri Memories vividly depicts the brutality of the 81 days and nights of the Quang Tri Citadel battle through the diaries and battlefield memoirs of two soldiers who directly confronted each other on two fronts.
When turning each page, each line of the narrative of one side is a liberation soldier of the Vietnam People's Army, and the other side is a marine soldier in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, readers will be able to compare, contrast, and feel the inner feelings of the two soldiers. They are people of the same age, born in the same year, both are filled with nostalgia for their families and homeland, and have the aspirations of passionate youth, but on the two sides of the battle line, the goals of the two soldiers holding guns are completely different.
Perhaps this is the first time a book has placed two diaries and memoirs of two soldiers on opposite sides of a long, fierce, and arduous battle side by side. This clearly shows the profound contrast between the purposes, responsibilities, and actions of holding guns and fighting of the two soldiers representing the two sides of justice and injustice; voluntary, devoted, and forced, resigned; idealistic and indifferent; aspirational and hopeless. The wounds of war have gradually healed. However, for the soldiers, on both sides, it is an unforgettable memory in their lives.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh , Deputy Director of the National Political Publishing House, Truth, said that in 2 months of urgent implementation of publishing, the manuscript content was completed on the principle of respecting the writing style, word usage, and sentence structure of the authors of the two diaries and memoirs.
"We believe that Quang Tri Memories will be a valuable document, providing readers with the most authentic view of a generation ready to sacrifice and dedicate their youth to the revolutionary ideals and to liberate the country. The book shows the gratitude of today's and future generations towards generations of soldiers who sacrificed their youth and blood, left their homeland and family, overcame all dangerous challenges to fight, win and protect every inch of our country, for the unity and independence of the nation," Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh shared.
