On January 19th, the National Political Publishing House launched "Memories of Quang Tri" - a book compiled and edited by researcher Nguyen Thuy Kha, aiming to vividly depict the 81 days and nights of the battle to defend the Quang Tri Citadel during the "red summer" of 1972.

Memories of Quang Tri - recollections of the

The book "Memories of Quang Tri" vividly portrays the brutality of the 81 days and nights of the Battle of Quang Tri Citadel through the diaries and battlefield memoirs of two soldiers who directly confronted each other on opposing fronts.

As readers turn the pages and read the narratives of a soldier from the People's Army of Vietnam and a Marine from the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, they will be able to compare and contrast, and feel the inner thoughts of these two soldiers. They are contemporaries, born in the same year, both yearning for family and homeland, and possessing the aspirations of passionate youth, but on opposite sides of the battlefield, their goals in carrying out their weapons are completely different.

Perhaps this is the first time a book has placed two diaries and memoirs side-by-side, from two soldiers on opposite sides of a long, arduous, and fierce battle. This clearly demonstrates the profound contrast in purpose, responsibility, and actions of the two soldiers representing the righteous and the unrighteous; voluntary dedication versus forced resignation; idealism versus indifference; aspiration versus hopelessness. The wounds of war have gradually healed. However, for the soldiers on both sides, it remains an unforgettable memory in their lives.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh , Deputy Director of the National Political Publishing House, said that during the two months of intensive publication, the manuscript content was completed, adhering to the principle of respecting the writing style, word choice, and sentence structure of the two diaries and memoirs.

"We believe that the Quang Tri Memoirs will be a valuable document, providing readers with the most authentic glimpse into a generation ready to sacrifice and dedicate their youth to the revolutionary ideal of liberating the country. The book expresses the gratitude and appreciation of present and future generations to the countless soldiers who sacrificed their youth, blood, and lives, leaving their homeland and families, overcoming all dangerous challenges to fight, win, and defend every inch of our land for the unity and independence of the nation," Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh shared.
