The program, organized over 65 days from August 13th to October 16th, aimed to raise at least 65 billion VND to support the Cuban people in overcoming some of their difficulties. Prior to this, immediately after the national launch ceremony on August 13th in Hanoi , the fundraising campaign quickly received widespread support from all sectors of society. Through online fundraising channels, the program achieved its target of raising at least 65 billion VND in just 30 hours.
The program has received the attention and guidance of the Politburo, the Secretariat, the Party and State leaders, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front; and the close coordination of central committees, ministries, branches, and mass organizations, as well as provincial and city Party Committees, People's Committees, and Fatherland Front Committees. Many ministries, branches, and localities have actively responded to the program in various forms, such as issuing guiding documents and mobilizing cadres, civil servants, employees, students, and pupils to participate. Notable examples include the Ministry of National Defense, the Vietnam News Agency, and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union …
According to Nguyen Hai Anh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, on October 3rd, during his official visit to Vietnam, Cuban National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez stated that a portion of the funds raised to support the Cuban people had been used to address the issue of equipment in electricity transmission and distribution. This is the most urgent issue, significantly impacting the lives of the Cuban people. In the coming period, the Vietnam Red Cross Society will continue to update information on specific support activities from Vietnamese resources for the Cuban people, thereby further spreading the spirit of solidarity and unwavering friendship between the two nations.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, this is the first time an international fundraising program of the Vietnam Red Cross Society has achieved a scale of millions of donations and hundreds of billions of VND in a record short time. The timely and transparent dissemination of information about the amount of donations and the number of donations, along with the support and collaboration of central and local press agencies, the Vietnam Red Cross Society's media channels, and social media platforms (in Vietnamese, Spanish, and English), contributed to the strong spread of the program.
The year 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (1960-2025). The program "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship" is an opportunity for the Vietnamese people to express their appreciation and unwavering affection for the Cuban people; it is also a chance to further strengthen traditional friendship, contributing to consolidating peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
