More than 537 billion VND to support the Cuban people

The Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee said that as of October 16, the program to support the Cuban people with the theme "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship" had reached over 537.7 billion VND with over 2 million donations. This result deeply demonstrates the spirit of solidarity, friendship and loyal affection of the Vietnamese people for the Cuban people.

The program was held for 65 days, from August 13 to October 16, with the goal of mobilizing at least 65 billion VND to help the Cuban people overcome some of their difficulties. Before that, right after the national launching ceremony on August 13 in Hanoi , the program quickly received widespread support from all walks of life. Through online mobilization channels, the program achieved the goal of mobilizing at least 65 billion VND in just 30 hours.

The Program has received the attention and direction of the Politburo, the Secretariat, the leaders of the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front; the close coordination of the Central Committees, ministries, branches, mass organizations, the Provincial and Municipal Party Committees, the People's Committees, the Fatherland Front Committees of the provinces and cities. Many ministries, branches and localities actively responded to the Program in many forms such as issuing directive documents, mobilizing cadres, civil servants, public employees, students to participate. Typical examples include the Ministry of National Defense, Vietnam News Agency, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union , etc.

Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Red Cross Society Nguyen Hai Anh said: On October 3, during his official visit to Vietnam, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez said that the money raised to support the Cuban people was partly used to solve the problem of equipment in electricity transmission and distribution. This is the most urgent issue, affecting the daily life of the Cuban people the most. In the coming time, the Vietnam Red Cross Society will continue to update information on specific support activities from the Vietnamese people's resources for the Cuban people, thereby further spreading the spirit of solidarity and friendship between the two nations.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Anh, this is the first time an international campaign of the Vietnam Red Cross Society has achieved a scale of millions of donations and hundreds of billions of VND in a record short time. The timely and transparent information about the amount of donations, the number of donations, and the support and companionship of central and local press agencies, the media channels of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, and social networking sites (in Vietnamese, Spanish and English) have contributed to the strong dissemination of the Program.

The year 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Cuba (1960 - 2025). The program "65 years of Vietnam - Cuba friendship" is an opportunity for the Vietnamese people to express their respect and loyal affection for the Cuban people; at the same time, it is an opportunity to further strengthen the traditional friendship, contributing to consolidating peace, cooperation and sustainable development.
