Young people use motorbikes to collect trash from people's homes for free.

As dusk fell, two dark figures were seen groping around the street corner, rummaging through trash.

Seeing this, a few people whispered and pointed. At that moment, the two young men turned around and smiled. One of them said, "We're just collecting trash, we're not doing anything dangerous." Those two young men were Nguyen Ngoc Hung (27 years old, Kep Town, Lang Giang District, Bac Giang Province) and Pham Duc Thanh (27 years old, Thong Kenh Commune, Gia Loc District, Hai Duong Province).

After graduating from university with a degree in construction, Hung and Thanh worked part-time while also participating in clean-up activities with charitable organizations. In early 2023, they decided to form a group called "Go Green," beginning to live out their childhood dream of a greener future. Currently, their environmental protection page, "Go Green," has attracted 2,000 followers. "I remember the first time we went to collect trash from people's homes – the feeling was indescribable because we were fulfilling our passion, but also nervous and a little anxious, afraid that people wouldn't trust us. That day, we hadn't prepared anything; it was just us and our motorbike, struggling with the pile of waste before finally getting home," Hung recounted. After that experience, Hung encouraged others to invest in motorbike racks, transforming stylish motorbikes into cargo vehicles. Hung's group collects used, everyday clothing to send to remote and underprivileged areas in collaboration with charitable groups.

The group collects all kinds of recyclable waste such as plastic bags, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, glass bottles, cardboard, photocopies, and old batteries. Previously, the group brought the waste back to their members' rented rooms, but recently, they rented a small warehouse to store and sort the waste. " The group operates for the benefit of the community, not for profit," Hung said. The group members hope that when they grow, they will use electric vehicles to collect waste door-to-door to reduce emissions. "Protecting the environment is a responsibility." Although they have been operating for a long time, neither Hung nor Thanh's relatives know that they collect waste for the purpose of protecting the environment.

“These activities stem from personal initiative; we don't tell our families, only that they sort our trash at home. For me, contributing to environmental protection is a responsibility,” Thanh shared. Thanh believes that perhaps when the group grows stronger and can help the community more, they will “show off” to their family later. Thanh and Hung are not yet married; both believe that relationships are a matter of “fate” and want to dedicate their time to contributing a small effort to protecting the shared environment. Mr. Pham Quang Thien (47 years old, alley 20 Truong Dinh, Hoang Mai, Hanoi ) commented that the young people's action of going door-to-door to collect trash for free is highly commendable and should be replicated. While everyone else is gathering with their families after a tiring and stressful day at work, Hung and Thanh are still diligently collecting trash. For them, this is a responsibility, a joy, and a passion from their childhood.
