In a video posted on Facebook, Orban said: "Over the past year, we have come to know that Qatar is a country of paramount importance to Europe. The European economy has been significantly offset by gas supplies from Qatar following cuts in Russian supplies..."
We have agreed to cooperate on energy, and we will also buy gas from Qatar. Having more opportunities is always better."
The Hungarian Prime Minister also stated that, following the talks, the leaders of Hungary and Qatar agreed to develop infrastructure and air transport, cooperate in the fields of communications and agriculture , thereby opening up promising prospects for bilateral economic cooperation.
According to Orban, Qatar – like Hungary – is ready to mediate between Ukraine and Russia.
The Hungarian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that the country is working to diversify its gas supply sources, but emphasizes that it will not be able to replace Russian energy in the short term.
In addition to increasing gas imports from Azerbaijan, Budapest is interested in increasing its supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the port terminal in Krk, Croatia, and developing gas fields in Romania.
