Keeping pace with development trends, the Quang Ninh Department of Health has recently oriented the construction and development of general hospitals in the area towards specialized centers linked to the development of medical tourism services.

The Geriatric and Rehabilitation Hospital is the only provincial-level specialized hospital in geriatrics and rehabilitation, with a capacity of 320 beds. It boasts a complete system of treatment departments, a well-trained staff, and a modern, advanced equipment system. Currently, the hospital possesses the latest generation of medical equipment, such as: robots for early rehabilitation from the acute phase, spinal decompression machines, and multi-site hyperbaric oxygen therapy systems. The hospital has registered a package of medical examination and treatment techniques to support the development of medical tourism in the 2025-2030 period.
At Bai Chay Hospital, a report has been submitted on the review, development, and registration of a package of medical examination and treatment techniques to serve the development of medical tourism in the 2025-2030 period. This package includes technical services in oncology, neurology - physiotherapy - rehabilitation, traditional medicine, and nutrition. Mr. Tran Thanh Luan, Deputy Director of Bai Chay Hospital, said: Following the province's and the health sector's directives on medical tourism orientation, Bai Chay Hospital has instructed its departments to proactively research and propose applicable services for promotion, especially high-tech services; develop and diversify service packages to give tourists more choices; strengthen communication; research and develop appropriate service prices for foreign patients; and connect and provide information with travel companies.
Recently, Bai Chay Hospital has expanded its partnerships with many domestic and international commercial insurance companies to guarantee payment of hospital fees for foreign patients, providing financial peace of mind for tourists who need medical treatment in Vietnam.

Currently, the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is developing a plan for the development of medical tourism and high-quality medical examination and treatment services for the period 2025-2030, aiming to make Vietnam a leading healthcare center in the region. The Ministry's immediate goal is that by 2030, at least five key localities – Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Quang Ninh, and Khanh Hoa – will implement an integrated medical tourism model combining hospitals, hotels, resorts, and travel agencies. In this context, Quang Ninh is proactively accelerating its medical tourism development roadmap.
On January 9th, during a meeting with the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, Provincial Party Secretary Quan Minh Cuong gave strategic directions for the unit's development, focusing on high-quality medical examination and treatment, training medical personnel, and developing medical tourism. By 2025, the hospital aims to provide outpatient services to 345,000 people and inpatient treatment to over 63,000, with patients from outside the province accounting for 25%. The referral rate is 0.81%. The hospital's quality score is 4.64/5, placing it among the top-rated hospitals nationwide. Furthermore, the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital has expanded its international cooperation with France, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore over the years.
According to the Quang Ninh Department of Health, 100% of medical facilities participating in the pilot program for medical tourism development will soon have an international marketing and communication department, providing information in at least three languages (Vietnamese, English, Chinese, or Korean). In addition, these facilities will develop and operate medical tourism service packages, including high-tech medical examination and treatment packages. This will allow tourists visiting Quang Ninh to utilize service packages that enhance health and well-being, reduce stress, relax, and offer skin care, cosmetic surgery, dentistry, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, and comprehensive medical check-ups and treatments, all integrated with programs that include visa support, airport transfers, accommodation, dining, insurance, and online reimbursement. Quang Ninh will soon become a multi-purpose destination for tourists, a place to comprehensively rejuvenate energy, emotions, and health.
