E10 bioethanol fuel – a type of fuel consisting of approximately 10% ethanol and 90% mineral gasoline – is expected to be rolled out nationwide from April 30th, replacing RON92 and RON95 gasoline.
According to experts, blending ethanol at a 10% ratio improves combustion in engines due to its high oxygen content, thereby increasing combustion efficiency and performance. Although ethanol has a lower calorific value than mineral gasoline, the difference is negligible and is compensated by more efficient combustion. In practice, engine power and fuel consumption when using E10 are basically equivalent, and may even be more economical in some cases.
A notable benefit of E10 gasoline is the reduction of harmful emissions. Specifically, CO emissions can be reduced by 20-30%, and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions by 10-20%, contributing to improved air quality and protecting public health. Furthermore, E10 is compatible with over 90% of current vehicles without requiring engine modifications.
Economically , using E10 helps reduce fuel imports, saving nearly $800 million annually, and could contribute to GDP growth of approximately 0.3-0.5%. The selling price of E10 is also expected to be more competitive if tax and fee policies are adjusted accordingly.
Currently, many countries have widely adopted E10, indicating that the shift towards biofuels is inevitable.
