Many aircraft are equipped with internet access, making it convenient for passengers to use.
Following a successful trial period, Vietnam Airlines officially announced today, January 1st, 2026, the launch of its in-flight internet service, allowing passengers to access features such as messaging, photo sharing, website browsing, and email throughout their flights.
About five months ago, the airline began testing the provision of internet service on international and some domestic routes operated by Airbus A350 aircraft. To date, more than 70,000 passengers have experienced this service during their flights.
Vietnam Airlines is offering data packages for passengers to choose from depending on their needs, including: a $5 messaging package allowing unlimited texting throughout the flight, a $10 package for one hour of web browsing, and a $20 package allowing unlimited internet access for the entire journey.
Data packages are currently available on international flights. From now until March 31, 2026, the airline will continue to provide free internet service for business class passengers and 15 minutes of text messaging for all passengers.
For domestic flights, the airline will launch the service as soon as the payment method is standardized in the Vietnamese market.
Currently, the airline has equipped eight Airbus A350 aircraft with internet connectivity, and plans to complete the equipping of its entire A350 fleet by 2026.
Other aircraft, such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A321, will be equipped with satellite internet access systems to provide service shortly thereafter.
Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, said that maintaining continuous connectivity for passengers throughout their flight journey is not only an essential requirement of the modern aviation industry, but also a step demonstrating the airline's determination in implementing Resolution 57 of the Politburo on promoting science, technology and innovation.
Accelerating the digital transformation of Vietnam's aviation industry.
With a growth rate of approximately 21%, Vietnam's tourism sector is considered by the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) to be among the fastest-growing in the world.
The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority aims to achieve a passenger volume of 95 million and cargo volume of 1.6 million tons in 2026, representing increases of 13% in passengers and 15% in cargo compared to the previous year.
To realize this goal, alongside strengthening air transport management according to key directions including improving institutions and policies, maintaining market growth momentum, supporting airlines to stabilize production and business operations, and enhancing operational capacity, the industry is also accelerating the application of digital technology and promoting digital transformation associated with sustainable development.
