According to GearRice , this information was reported by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman in the latest Power On report, stating that iOS 18 will be the best iPhone update in recent years with new features and a significant redesign.

Apple wants iOS 18 to be the reason to entice users to buy the iPhone 16.

A few days ago, Gurman also reported that Apple had temporarily paused development of its new operating systems, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and watchOS 11, for a week. This pause was taken to allow the company to focus on fixing software bugs, a crucial step Apple has taken in recent years. Internally, Apple's senior leadership described its upcoming operating system as "ambitious and exciting," with new features and redesigns, along with performance and security improvements.

Since iOS 7, Apple hasn't significantly updated the operating system; however, iOS has seen important improvements in recent years. With iOS 14, Apple introduced widgets to the iPhone's home screen for the first time, and in iOS 16, the company brought significant improvements to the lock screen for greater customization.

Analysts predict that artificial intelligence (AI) will be a key feature of iOS 18 next year, especially in Siri. The iPhone's virtual assistant could significantly improve in the next generation of software. Furthermore, the company is also striving to catch up with Google and OpenAI in the field of general AI, with iOS 18 bringing general AI capabilities to the iPhone.

Gurman added that since the iPhone 16 doesn't offer many changes compared to the iPhone 15, one of the reasons for buying the new models will be the software. Therefore, iOS 18 will convince many people to upgrade from older iPhones to get the many exclusive features only available on the iPhone 16. This is crucial for Apple because the iPhone 16 is not expected to have any major hardware advancements next year.

Ultimately, Apple is still in the early stages of iOS 18 development, internally codenamed M1. Each phase lasts approximately six weeks and must be completed four weeks before Apple introduces the new software at its developer conference – WWDC 2024 (which takes place in June).
