During the "It's glowtime" event, Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 series. The iPhone 16 series consists of four products: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Besides impressive hardware upgrades such as the powerful A18 Series chip and the high-quality 48MP ultrawide camera, the iPhone 16 series also features a new version of Ceramic Shield glass. This is a hybrid glass-ceramic material that provides better protection for the screens of the new iPhone models.

It's 50% "harder" than the first-generation Ceramic Shield glass and twice as hard as "the glass in any other smartphone." It's unclear how Apple defines "harder," but they typically focus more on drop resistance than scratch resistance when advertising materials.
Apple first used Ceramic Shield glass (developed through a collaboration with Corning) in 2020 for the iPhone 12 models. Corning also produces Gorilla Glass, which Apple's competitors use, including the new "Gorilla Armor" that Samsung incorporates into the Galaxy S24 Ultra. But Ceramic Shield glass appears to be Apple's proprietary product.
