Will the iPhone 17 Pro Max be replaced?

Apple first launched the Ultra brand in 2022 with the M1 Ultra chip – a significant upgrade over the M1 Max. This was followed by the Apple Watch Ultra, which surpassed all other Apple Watch models. Apple then pushed the M2 Ultra for its most powerful Mac lineup, along with the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

Most recently, Apple named its next-generation CarPlay version CarPlay Ultra. Simultaneously, the company linked CarPlay Ultra with Aston Martin, a top-tier luxury car brand – reinforcing the Ultra image.

In 2022, journalist Mark Gurman reported that Apple was considering dropping the "Pro" suffix and replacing the top-of-the-line model with "Ultra," and that users could wait for the iPhone 15 to see this change. However, nothing changed on the iPhone 15, although it might be happening soon.

This might be the most opportune time to restructure the entire iPhone product line to align with the naming conventions of MacBooks and iPads.

According to leaked information, the iPhone 17 series will include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Ultra.

There is currently no confirmed information about the launch of an iPhone Ultra this year. However, as the Ultra brand is gradually replacing the Pro line of products, this idea may be becoming a reality.

This also presents an opportunity for Apple to clearly differentiate the Ultra with its own hardware and software, while simultaneously standardizing its product naming system across its entire portfolio.

Some reports suggest that the two iPhone 17 Pro models will have a smaller Dynamic Island. However, another source claims that only the iPhone 17 Ultra will have a smaller Dynamic Island. The source also reveals that only the Ultra model will feature a vapor chamber cooling system. Furthermore, the Ultra model will have a thicker battery than the iPhone 17 Pro due to its larger battery.

Recently, a leak has revealed details about the rumored design of the upcoming new iPhone Pro. According to the shared images, the rear design of the device is noteworthy, especially the large cutout for the camera module. This module appears to include three image sensors, a LiDAR sensor, and a flash. This could be considered a significant step forward in Apple's camera design.

Specifically, the iPhone 17 Pro's camera cluster is in the form of a bar, seemingly an expanded version of the familiar canopy design found on recent Google Pixel models. Additionally, the images reveal a variety of color options, including soft shades like light blue, light green, gray, and light purple, alongside the traditional off-white.

Previously, The Information revealed that Apple might surprise everyone with the iPhone 17 models launching next September by abandoning the titanium frame after only two generations and replacing it with an aluminum frame. Aluminum is known to make the device lighter while still ensuring durability.

At the same time, the back panel, instead of being entirely glass, is a combination of aluminum and glass; the rear camera module is rectangular and larger than the current model. The raised part is made of aluminum while the bottom part is glass to support wireless charging.

According to some sources, Apple will add vapor chamber cooling technology, similar to that used in many current Android phones, to improve performance for the iPhone 17 Pro series.
