On the evening of June 10th, the entire DIFF 2023 grandstand, with over 5,000 seats, was filled, and hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists flocked to the streets along the Han River to witness Canada and France tell their love story through light during the second night of the fireworks display.
Set to vibrant electronic music, the Canadian team's performance, titled "Aurora," created streaks of light depicting the stunning natural phenomenon of the Earth's Arctic.
Through the pulsating electronic music and vibrant fireworks, visitors can feel the love of summer from the people of the land of the maple leaf. Giant bursts of fireworks raining down on the sky made the Canadian team's performance seem to have no "break."

Meanwhile, France – the land of love – presented a romantic fireworks display with a slower pace. With the theme "Colors of Hope," the French team depicted stories of love and hope through the artful language of light and captivating music.
The French team expressed "love" through heart-shaped fireworks effects. In particular, the moment the song "Don't Ask Me" by Vietnamese singer My Tam played, the entire audience erupted in cheers as an international fireworks team used a Vietnamese love song for their performance. Along with that, US-UK and K-Pop hits helped the French team fully express the overarching theme of DIFF – " A World Without Boundaries".
Composer Nguyen Duc Trinh, President of the Vietnam Musicians Association and a member of the DIFF judging panel, shared: “There were many ‘hearts’ appearing in the sky, and notably, the French team even used a Vietnamese song in their performance. This shows that the connection between countries is becoming stronger. Hopefully, the teams in the following nights will have even more outstanding highlights.”
Looking ahead to the third fireworks night – “Conquering Dreams” on the evening of June 17th, all anticipation is focused on the dramatic “dialogue” of light and music between the two teams that have reigned supreme the most in previous DIFF seasons: Martarello Group from Italy and Howard & Sons Pyrotechnics from Australia.
Returning to this year's DIFF, the Italian team demonstrated high determination and thorough preparation, making full use of their inherent strengths to showcase "the art of light." Emphasizing the artistic interplay between music and art, this year's light "paintings" were inspired by the masterpieces of Lucio Fontana, under the theme "Ancient Space and Modern Light."
Meanwhile, with a "clever" strategy, the Australian team is ready to "set sail" onto the Han River to contribute to creating the most spectacular fireworks festival ever. Their incredibly elaborate light show, themed "Light, Light, Partner," will focus on technical skill with 7,500 fireworks devices.
“What’s special is that we have a secret weapon, which will be revealed to the audience this Saturday night. We are confident that we will win,” said Christian Anthony Howard, captain of the Australian team.
After more than a decade, DIFF has become more than just a fireworks competition; it's also a cultural meeting point, showcasing the friendship and identity of each participating nation. Expectations and anticipation are the feelings not only of the people and tourists in Da Nang but also of the members of the judging panel, who were once quite familiar with fireworks festivals.
"After three years of COVID-19 lockdowns worldwide, Da Nang's hosting of the International Fireworks Festival is a positive sign, a welcome return. Although Vietnam has thousands of festivals, DIFF stands out as one of the newer festivals of our time, very meaningful, cultural, and humane."
"In particular, DIFF also brings aesthetic value, providing audiences in Da Nang and television viewers with a very good aesthetic sense," commented Master of Fine Arts Vi Kien Thanh, Director of the Cinema Department and Vice President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, and a member of the DIFF judging panel.
With the theme "A World Without Borders," DIFF 2023 has truly continued to write the story of a vibrant, youthful, and dynamic Da Nang – a "City of Leading Festivals in Asia."
This year marks the 11th edition of DIFF and the 4th year that the Da Nang City People's Committee has collaborated with Sun Group to upgrade the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival from two nights to five nights, giving visitors more opportunities to enjoy the fireworks and, importantly, making the competitions even more dramatic.
DIFF 2023, themed "A World Without Borders," took place from June 2nd to July 8th, 2023, at the fireworks stage on the Han River, with the participation of 8 fireworks teams, including 7 international teams: England, Italy, Poland, France, Australia, Canada, Finland, and the Vietnamese representative team from Da Nang.
The performances on June 17th and 24th will be broadcast live on Danang TV1, Danang Television Station at 8:00 PM. This year's festival is also sponsored by Vietnam Airlines as the Diamond Sponsor; Chicilon Media as the media partner; Pacific Airlines and Kim Ngan ADV, Owen Fashion, La Vie Vietnam Mineral Water, Wewell Herbal Drinks, and many other reputable brands as co-sponsors.
