James Rodriguez previously played for Real Madrid. |
In an interview on the "Los Amigos de Edu" program on March 17th, Rodriguez selected the three best players at Real Madrid currently: Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior.
Later, the midfielder even rated himself higher than legends at the Bernabeu such as Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Zinedine Zidane. Rodriguez said: "Zidane is great, he won the World Cup at his peak, but I would still choose myself."
Rodriguez's comments immediately drew mixed reactions on social media. One fan wrote: "Where does he fit into Real Madrid's string of Champions League titles?" Another commented: "That's ridiculous, who does James think he is?" Another fan remarked: "I only remember him for his beautiful goals, it's a farce to compare him to other legends in midfield."
In other news, Rodriguez predicted that Bellingham has the potential to win the Ballon d'Or in the future. The Colombian star said: “I scored over 14 goals and provided 15 assists in my first year at Real Madrid. It was a fantastic time, similar to Bellingham's first season. I really like the way he plays. I think he could win the Ballon d'Or.”
"In 2014, I finished eighth in the race, with Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Iniesta, Xavi, Suarez, and Neymar ahead of me," the former Real Madrid star said.
After terminating his contract with Rayo Vallecano, Rodriguez is now playing for Club Leon in the Mexican league. The team is currently second in the standings, one point behind leaders Club America.
