According to The Wall Street Journal on December 13, Johnson & Johnson (USA) has sued units of the health insurance company Cigna.
The lawsuit alleges they colluded with a drug subsidy intermediary to siphon off Johnson & Johnson's financial aid intended for patients using some of the company's expensive medications.
A Johnson & Johnson spokesperson said: "Patient support is for patients, not for intermediaries. The lawsuit aims to end these harmful practices and protect patients' right to access medicines."

The lawsuit comes as Johnson & Johnson and other pharmaceutical companies try to narrow down prescription drug reimbursement programs or provide free medication to patients who meet income criteria, arguing that intermediaries are exploiting the programs and not getting the products to the patients who actually need them.
