Head coach of the Karate department, Bui Thanh Tuoi, said: "In recent years, Karate in An Giang has developed quite strongly, attracting a large number of people to participate in training. Every year, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in coordination with units and localities, organizes provincial-level youth, student, and club Karate competitions to create opportunities for athletes to compete, gain experience, and perfect their techniques, contributing to encouraging the development of the Karate training movement. At the same time, it is a good opportunity for the department to select promising talents to supplement the talent team. Besides discovering talented children at provincial and district-level competitions, the department also actively seeks new talents through the promotion exams of local martial arts clubs. Thanks to this, the Karate department of An Giang province has achieved remarkable results, gradually affirming its position in regional and national competitions," Coach Bui Thanh Tuoi shared.

Creating favorable conditions for athletes to compete.

Recently, the An Giang Provincial Karate team achieved considerable success at the 4th Southern Region National Karate Championship 2025, winning 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals. Specifically, athlete Pham Minh Thu won the gold medal in the women's individual Kumite over 68kg category; and four athletes, Duong Ngoc Ngoan, Le Truc Mai, Nguyen Thi Thu, and Pham Thi Bich Ngoc, won the gold medal in the women's team Kumite.

The 4th National Karate Championship of the Southern Region in 2025 was held in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, bringing together nearly 400 athletes from 15 units to compete for over 74 sets of medals in 2 main categories: Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) in 4 age groups (10-11 years old, 12-14 years old, 15-17 years old, and over 18 years old). The An Giang province Karate team had 15 athletes participating.

Each match is an opportunity for athletes to showcase their individual skills and learn from their opponents. The tournament is not only a place for competition, but also an opportunity to promote sportsmanship and connect the community of Karate enthusiasts; it is also a chance to discover more outstanding talents to focus on the national team. At the end of the tournament, the Ho Chi Minh City team affirmed its superior strength by winning first place overall, with 21 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and 13 bronze medals; Dong Thap came second overall, with 14 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 13 bronze medals; and Binh Duong came third overall, with 6 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 12 bronze medals.

Coach Bui Thanh Tuoi commented: “The professional quality of this year's tournament has improved, with the athletes' skill levels showing significant progress, reflecting the attention and investment in developing this martial art by local authorities. The tournament also provides an opportunity for localities to assess their training and development of the Karate movement, and to identify promising athletes to add to the talent development team for further training and development. The results of the An Giang Karate team this year demonstrate thorough preparation in tactics and physical fitness before the tournament, along with the efforts of the athletes. This creates a favorable foundation for the sport to achieve higher results in important competitions in 2025. Immediately after the tournament, the team will actively train to prepare the best possible force to participate in the 2025 National Youth Karate Championship in Bac Ninh province in early June.”

Currently, the An Giang Karate team maintains training at three levels, with a fairly good group of athletes (5 senior athletes, 1 junior athlete, and 14 talented athletes). Promising athletes include: Vang Thi Ngoc My, Pham Minh Thu, Duong Ngoc Ngoan, Le Truc Mai, Nguyen Thi Thu, and Pham Thi Bich Ngoc…

In the coming period, in addition to maintaining its strength in the Kumite weight categories, the An Giang province Karate team is actively training in Kata. At the same time, it is creating opportunities for athletes to participate in friendly matches, learn from experience, improve their professional skills, and aim for high achievements at national tournaments in the future.
