Connecting safe agricultural products:

Recently, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with local authorities to promote the sale of safe agricultural products and food from other provinces and cities in Hanoi.

This not only provides a supply of safe agricultural products and food with clear origins for consumers in the capital city, but also facilitates the work of relevant agencies in controlling food safety. Therefore, in the coming time, Hanoi and other localities need to continue to coordinate and organize more effective activities and events connecting supply and demand.

Supply and demand meet.

Mr. Do Huu Xuan, representative of DR.DON Joint Stock Company (Ha Dong ward) with the Kochi brand, said that the company specializes in producing health care food products derived from agricultural products and medicinal herbs, such as black garlic, red Polygonum multiflorum, red dates, turmeric, etc. To expand its market, the company focuses on investing in science and technology in product processing; regularly participates in trade promotion fairs inside and outside the city; and signs contracts to supply products to supermarkets and convenience stores. His company urgently needs a safe and stable supply of raw materials.

As a region specializing in agricultural production, Son La has the second largest area of fruit trees in the country, ranking first among northern provinces. Currently, the province has 560 factories and agricultural processing facilities; 258 safe agricultural and aquatic product supply chains; 214 planting area codes; and 101 establishments applying VietGAP good agricultural practices…

According to Nguyen Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Ngoc Hoang Agricultural Cooperative (Son La province), with 215 hectares of red-fleshed dragon fruit, of which 180 hectares are ready for harvest, the cooperative has expanded its market and exported its products to Europe through networking and participation in trade fairs.

Continuing the effective implementation of the Coordination Program No. 7237/CTPH-BNNPTNT-UBND dated October 23, 2021, on ensuring food safety, improving the quality of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products, and trade between Hanoi and other provinces and cities in the 2021-2025 period, Hanoi and 43 provinces and cities have maintained and supported the development of 1,327 safe food supply chains for Hanoi. Of these, Hanoi maintains and develops 170 safe agricultural product production-consumption linkage chains.

Overall, 100% of supply chains from provinces, cities, and Hanoi have been granted food safety certification or equivalent, with over 45% of product supply chains to Hanoi having at least one production stage certified according to one of the following standards: GAP, HACCP, ISO 22000, organic, etc.

According to Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, Head of the Quality, Processing and Market Development Department (Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment), Hanoi currently only produces enough to meet 20-70% of the demand for each group of essential food items. The remaining supply, which falls short of the needs and consumer preferences of Hanoi residents, is currently sourced from other provinces and cities nationwide and through imports.

To meet the consumer needs of Hanoi residents, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment regularly organizes fairs, festivals, networking conferences, exhibitions, and product introductions to promote agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products to distribution systems, processing businesses, and consumers in the city.

“Developing the market for agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products creates opportunities for cooperatives and businesses to meet, exchange information, and sign product consumption contracts. In addition, cooperation between provinces and cities to bring agricultural products and specialties to the Hanoi market will help relevant agencies control the quality of agricultural products and ensure food safety for consumers,” added Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Hang.

Diversify product distribution channels.

The development of safe agricultural supply chains for Hanoi has received attention from local authorities, but it has not yet reached its full potential and advantages. Propaganda, promotion, trade facilitation, and consumption connection efforts remain traditional; there is a lack of innovation in applying digital transformation to connect production and consumption; and the strengths of Hanoi's export businesses in connecting with raw material sources have not been fully utilized.

To enhance coordination and connect the consumption of safe agricultural products from provinces and cities to Hanoi, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, Ta Van Tuong, stated that localities need to support cooperatives and businesses producing in large-scale chains, applying high technology, and sustainably developing production chains with GAP, GMP, and HACCP certifications; building brands, geographical indications, and improving product designs and packaging for distribution businesses and consumers to easily identify and confidently use the products. Localities also need to promote awareness campaigns to encourage businesses and households to comply with legal regulations and adhere to safe agricultural production processes.

In addition, provinces, cities, and Hanoi need to regularly provide and share information on the production volume, quality, seasonality, raw material areas, and contact information for supplying agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products in their localities. Localities and Hanoi will continue to coordinate in organizing events to connect agricultural product supply and demand with supermarkets, modern distribution channels, and traditional markets.

This aims to support localities, businesses, cooperatives, and production facilities in the agricultural sector to develop their businesses, expand their markets, and focus more on the domestic market...
